Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I was hoping someone could share exactly how they go about private lableing, costs, etc. I have a wonderful opportunity to private label some soaps to an amazing, growing company. But here's the catch. They aren't a store; they wholesale to stores. So I am thinking that the retail price for the soap would be so high by the time it got to the retailers (after my selling it to the company and the company selling it to the retailers) that we would all be shooting ourselves in the foot. Do you price private label items differently than wholesale? If so, how do you make a profit, LOL? Some ideas I had were to sell the soaps unwrapped to the company, unstamped, etc. But then, I am sure they would want me to provide the labels, so I would need to charge for that. Help! :-) -- Debbie deb www.debrasrhapsody.com

I've had companies approach me many times to private label my lip balm, and I always say no. For short runs, it's not worth your time and expense. Also, as you mentioned, there is the cost factor - your cost is relatively high to start with, so by the time your product reaches the market it's overpriced. There are companies that specialize in private label products, but the only way they can make any money at it is by requiring high minimums and being fully automated. I can empathize with your position. As business owners, we see opportunities and want to go for it! But sometimes it just doesn't make sense and we have to learn to say no. -Patty (Ganache for Lips) ______________________________\ ____ Get your own web address.
