Guest guest
Hi Leslie, As is the case when folks try to extrapolate the effectiveness of herbs to the effectivness of essential oils .. concentration has a lot to do with this. > I don't doubt that cats do use the essential oils from plants, if you watch > a cat they will do some amazing things with plants/herbals but they are > doing it out of inner knowledge and not just cause someone told them too. True it is that cats and dogs and other creatures eat a lot of greenery, but we gotta look at concentration .. it takes 4 metric tons of Rose Blossoms to produce 1 kilogram of Rose Otto .. one ton produces 250 gr., 100 kilos produces 25 grams .. 10 kilos produces 2.5 grams .. and 1 kilo produces .25 grams .. the average kitty cat ain't about to eat 1 kilo of anything. ;-) Granted I used an extreme example above .. if I used Oregano it would be 18 kilos of oil per metric ton of plant material .. but even that would boil down to 100 grams of plant = 1.8 grams of oil. I don't believe a cat can consume 100 grams of Oregano leaf .. but I am pretty sure that 1.8 grams of Oregano EO could do a cat in. Some cats & dogs do get sick and even die from eating the wrong things. They are not always as wise in this regard as we would like to portray them as being. > I have seen some cruelties in my time, have never been able to watch any > toward animals. Same here .. but even as a cat loving feller .. I gotta admit that amongst the animal kingdom one of the most cruel critters to be found is the domestic house cat .. they love to play with their live food. ;-) > I believe half an aspirin is enough to kill a cat. > Leslie Maybe .. these two Vet Links don't prohibit it but they both say that the danger of overdosing because cats metabolize aspirin very slowly. http://vetmedicine.about.com/cs/altvetmedgeneral/a/dogcataspirin.htm http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_aspirin.html Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com >> " Nikki Sherritt " <nsherritt wrote: >>I actually do know that cats and EO's don't mix because their little >>livers cannot take it.
