Guest guest
Hey y'all, Got second hand information from two sources on the Bulgarian scene .. one of these sources got his information from someone who just returned from a conference where the information was discussed - the other source is from a Bulgarian customer. And just today I got first hand information from a major distiller here in Turkey regarding the Turkish scene. They want me to lock in my needs as soon as possible because he is not sure how much they can produce beyond their normal fixed commitments to various perfumeries, etc. Bulgaria .. the industry has slowed down a lot since the USSR went under and there are some in Bulgaria now who say that the rose industry is in danger because they can no longer get people to pick the Rose Blossoms. They won't work for the pay on offer. Eastern Europeans are heading towards the EEC countries. The youngsters who in the past worked as cheap labor on the farms, are now finding work in the more affluent countries of Europe. This translates to higher prices for the Bulgarian products .. but we've seen that price creep on the for the last few years. I have no information now on their weather and how it might have affected this summer crop. Turkey .. labor is not a problem .. weather is this year. This year Rose bushes were negatively affected due to climatic conditions. The weather changes (cold/hot then rainy/dry) have damaged some bushes to a point that they will have far fewer buds .. and blossoms. My source said .. " We will still produce a quality rose oil and absolute but I think our total production will be down. " This too translates to higher prices for the Turkish products this summer. Also .. if the Bulgarians raise prices .. the Turks will do likewise. They are business folks so its only logical. And .. for the 2006 crop Turkish Rose Otto and Rose Absolute I will have in stock when the 2007 crop hits the street .. I will also raise my prices. I will not sell it based on my 2006 cost .. I'll sell it based on my 2007 replacement cost. Any good business person would do that .. and I am a good business person. ;-) Rose Hydrosol .. there has been a shortage for the last three years. Some sellers have made up for this by adulterating the Hydrosol with distilled water. Those who have purchased my Rose Hydrosol and who have compared it to many other Rose Hydrosols have noted that the difference was extreme! Rose Hydrosol is something I don't have to push .. was a time when I used to buy 3 or 4 metric tons and sell it in a year .. but year before last I was able to get ZILCH! Last year I was able to get but 350 kilos of Rose Hydrosol .. and it went out the door to folks on this list within 60 days of it arriving at my company. The reasons for the shortage of Rose Hydrosol are .. some companies .. and I'm not gonna say who they are but they are not my suppliers .. are doing DOUBLE Cohobation in order to squeeze that last tiny drop of Rose Otto out of the Hydrosol .. and what one winds up with is a Hydrosol that has an odor of Rose IF you have a good imagination. The other reason is that the Rose Growers Association here in Turkey opened a number of walk in retail shops for Rose products .. Rose Otto, Rose Hydrosol, Rose Soaps and this and that. They sell the Rose Hydrosol direct to the public in 500 ml, 750 ml and 1000 ml bottles. In any case .. IF .. you want to reserve some of the 2007 crop of Turkish Rose Otto or Rose Absolute or Rose Hydrosol .. lemme know now and you will be at the top of the list when I get it. I can't promise that everyone who contacts me will be able to get what they want .. but I can promise you that what I have will be sold to those who are on my list .. starting with Number 1 and working on down the list. Last year (and now) .. my bulk prices were: Rose Otto, Turkish (Rosa damascena) .. Hydro-Steam Distilled 1 kilogram ...... $5,810.98 500 grams ....... $3,299.98 250 grams ....... $1,940.98 100 grams ....... $ 910.98 50 grams ....... $ 505.98 25 grams ....... $ 278.98 Rose Absolute, Turkish (Rosa damascena) .. Solvent Extracted 01 kg .. $2,700.00 16 oz .. $1,440.98 08 oz .. $ 800.98 04 oz .. $ 450.98 02 oz .. $ 250.98 Rose Hydrosol, Turkish (Rosa damascena) .. Hydro-Steam Distilled I can GUARANTEE that the Rose Hydrosol prices will increase!! 1 gal .... $86.99 1/2 gal .. $49.98 16 oz .... $14.99 08 oz .... $ 8.99 Folks can't beat my prices even if they travel to the still .. reason is I have been contracting with these folks since 1995 .. I visit them each year .. I know them and their family and their dog. And from the 2006 crop .. to dare .. I was able to sell 36 kilos of Rose Otto and 42 kilos of Rose Absolute. They know that they want to kill the goose that lays the Golden Egg .. so I get a bit of volume discount when I purchase. But .. if you think you can beat my prices for Quality Rose Products then you would be foolish to write to me and ask to be on the list. ;-) My last trip in Turkey before I unbutt this place for good will go down in May .. from Ankara to the Rose Fields of Isparta, then south to the Mediterranean city of Antalya where I'll stay in Kaleici (Inside the Walls of the Castle) .. which are old ruins in which a city has been restored, and then north to Konya and on north to the Cappedochia/Urgup region where I will stay at the Monastery Pansiyon in Mustafa Pasa. Both Chris and Martin have visited Turkey and have made this round robin trip. The Monastery Pansiyon is owned by a family I have known since 1989 .. the place is carved out of solid stone .. in an ancient city that is rarely visited by tourists except for European back packers .. reason for this is that the road leading into it is too narrow for tour buses. http://turkey.free.fr/monastery/index.htm Back to Bizniz .. Requests to get on the various list(s) can be made to me .. ButchBsi .. or to my employees in Maryland .. at AnatolianTreasures Also .. for those of you who from time to time have gotten bounces when you sent me email. Somebody yesterday (thanks Liz) recommended a get a Gmail account and I did and it works. ;-) I would prefer to not use it for business .. but its there if you can't get through my Stupid On Line server. ;-) ButchOwen Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com AROMATIC JOURNEYS: If you would like to take a trip through the Rose Fields and Stills of Turkey, go to the following URLs ...
