Austin is much more progressive (Hippie Hollow anyone, the home of

Whole Foods....). It is the Seattle of the Southwest. Spent lots of

time there and many friends from there. Small city feel with all the

pro's of a big city. Great downtown hotels.

San Antonio is more RiverWalk, Food, Alamo, tourist stuff. Austin is

a great, great city and much more of what Texas is really about (I

can say that I am Texan....)

I don't know if any of that helps or matters. Just hard not to chime

in when it is my home state!

Austin is ahead, very preliminary. My question would be, what would be in

Austin and what would be in San Antonio to make them attractive.

[Dave:] Well. Where to start. Austin is just one of the coolest little

cities I’ve ever been to. Great music scene. Beautiful countryside. San

Antonio is more or less the cradle of Texas history. The Alamo is right

downtown in a beautiful plaza. The River Walk is terrific. I lived in San

Antonio for two years, and for me it’s right up there with Munich or

Nuremberg. It’s one of my very favorite places.

Thanks Nikki and David

I've never seen the Alamo and being a history buff (not fanatic, just a

minor enthusiast) that would be cool to see.

Now I have to check on BEADS! That will decide my vote fer SHURE! ;-)

Living in an area of many great cities (SE Pennsylvania), I would

like to see us go to Big Bend TX. I think we may need to bring our

own big tent. Just kidding, but I would have to say from the comments

I have been reading that San Antonio gets my vote. Do I have a

vote? Been on the list for nine month, don't say much but enjoy the

information shared on the list and Butch is very informative and at

times very entertaining.

No matter where, I look forward to meeting many of you in the near

future.

My best to you all.

Let me know what you find Kathleen! I LOVE beads too! Trouble is I stare at

them and don't want to ruin them with my average artistic skills. *snort*

You know that Alamo? Don't blink. You might miss it. What is left is so

small. Sort of like the spot where the Bastille stood. Small in the modern

city.

List mama Ziggy. I CANNOT get through to your e-mail. I have updates for you

on the birth conference!!

Hey Dale,

I've been looking, both Austin and San Antonio both have bead shops. As the

vote is leaning towards Austin, I'll have a look round and see what I can

find. It will depend a lot on where we are staying too. Unless I rent a car,

the shops will have to be within walking distance. Will really have to wait

and see where Chris manages to get a group rate (if she can) before I google

hard. ;-)

P.S. I hope I can find some more turqoise like last year. Gosh that stuff is

gorgous!
