Guest guest
Hello, I am going to be needing surgery and I am looking for suggestions for an oil to help reduce scarring of the incision. I was thinking maybe rose hip seed oil would be good, perhaps infused with calendula, maybe some helichrysum eo? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also, if anyone has used an oil before, at what point do you begin applying the oil? I'm assuming it shouldn't be right away before staples/sutures are removed, but I have never done this before. Thanks, Sandy

I use it in my tattoo balm, and people really like this product. -- Version: 7.5.446 / Virus Database: 269.3.0/758 - Release 4/12/2007 11:52 AM -- Version: 7.5.446 / Virus Database: 269.3.0/758 - Release 4/12/2007 11:52 AM
Guest guest
Hi Sandy, I had a major op last year and used unrefined Shea Butter from day two! It was very soothing and I did not have any further problems i.e infections or re-opening. I prepared the shea butter in advance of the op by whipping it really well so it was easy to apply, I didn't add any further oils as I find they make it too greasy which isn't conducive to wound healing. After a few days I was able to wash the wound with my Castile soap followed by Shea Butter. The scar is hardly visible now. Guest guest
Emu oil with a few drops of lavender EO has worked wonders on the scars I've seen treated with it ! One was a man who had cut his hand with a chain saw. Once the wound had healed, his wife gave some emu oil with lavender added. He applied it 3 times a day, more often if he remembered. I saw them 8 or 9 months after it happened and he had to point out the scar on his hand. If he hadn't pointed it out, I would have had trouble seeing it Paula ....... in Michigan www.farmfreshsoapsandcandles.com > Hello, > I am going to be needing surgery and I am looking for suggestions for an oil > to help reduce scarring of the incision. Rose hip seed as your carrier oil, and Helichrysum italicuum as the only additive... we've seen amazing results with this.. (see http://www.naturesgift.com/HelichrysumHealing.htm for a few samples.) and we normally recommend starting as soon as the incision has 'scabbed over'... not on broken skin, but you really don't need to wait until the stitches /staples are out, in most cases.
