WELL! what a coinky-dink!

I did google search and they came up on top, when and checked out their

prices, read their little " be concientious " notice and order 2 16 ounce

bottles. ;-)

Kathleen,

Beware of any bottled water that comes from India. Just ensure the

stuff has an antibacterial agent as you must consider the water born

diseases endemic in that country. A geniune distilled water should be

sterile, but I would not risk it unless I was certain of how the water

had been handled.

I like that company for herbs, don't trust them with hydrosols. A few

years ago I got some " neroli " hydrosol from them. It smelled weak, and

went bad with LOTS of bacterial growth within a month or so. Called

them, they admitted they -made-it-themselves- with dried orange

blossoms! Bet they're doing the same with the sandalwood. Amateurs, IMO.

K, I have, in the past, received samples from more than one source in

India... in every case the hydrosol was almost odorless.. I think it had

been cohabitated until every last drop of eo was removed. Not something I

would spend money on.

Now there is a vendor in the northwest who offers a VERY aromatic one... so

aromatic that I KNOW it's not the same product I sampled... I suspect that

it MAY have the essential oil solublized in distilled water. I don't know

this... but it was one of those 'too good to be true' things...

Thanks Martin, Thanks Anya

As usual I jumped in feet first. >sigh< Too late but... I planned not to use

it for anything " medical " . More as a linen spray than anything else so the

unsterile bit shouldn't be a problem but I'll consider an antibacterial

agent... and MAN I hope in the few years since you ordered Anya, they've

changed their evil ways.

Ah well, we live, do stupid sh*t and hopefully learn from it.

I think the best thing is to always order samples and judge for

yourself. I also make a regular practice of emailing (or better,

calling) my suppliers and talking to them about any potential order

of new products from them.

Mountain Rose has a great reputation , at least here in the Great

Pacific NorthWest and I would call and talk to them before you let

someone else turn you away. Trying yourself and comparing, reading,

and getting feedback is the winning equation here when it comes to

buying supplies! Everyone has different experiences here.

My 1 1/2 cents!

>Mountain Rose has a great reputation

They might have among those who do not know the right questions to

ask. When I started prodding them over their sales of endangered

species and other matters, they could not take it and went as far as

blocking my emails. It looks to me like they just parrot the hogwash

their suppliers tell them and are not interested in finding out the

truth. It always sending alarm bells ringing in my head when I see a

web site plastered with conservation logos, yet they cannot give a

reasonable reply to challenge their claims.

Martin-

I decided (although I do not purchase Indian Sandalwood anymore) to

email MRH about this just to see what they would say. Here is their

response.

I cannot speak for the quality of their EO's or Hydrosols, etc. I

don't buy any of my EO's from them, just carrier oils, etc. which

they have excellent quality ones (and i have tried many).

Again, everyone has their own experiences with companies. I have

several that I would never do business with again, but get talked

" up " all the time by other folks (go figure).

Anyhoo, here is their response. Thanks Martin!

Mountain Rose Herbs response to my question about their Sandalwood

Hydrosol:

" Thank you for contacting us here at Mountain Rose Herbs!

I'm not sure what quality of Sandalwood hydrosol you're used to, but the

scent of the true hydrosol is very light (as the essential oil has been

removed). I can assure you it's not been adulterated at all, this is

pure

hydrosol direct from the distillery. It appears that folks who are

used to

the essential oils mixed with water 'flower waters' are disappointed

in the

scent, but the folks looking for the healing qualities of Sandalwood

love

this stuff!

I hope that helped to answer your question and do let us know if we

can be

of any further assistance. Thank you for your interest in our

products and

have a great day! "

Warm regards,

Barbara

Also, MRH does mention on their descriptions on the Rosewood and

Sandalwood " Endangered, use sparingly " when many, many, many other

companies sell these oils (in larger quantities at that) with no

mention of the endangered status.

Just a note in case you haven't seen that.

>sigh< Didn't mean to start a war. I had heard about these folk a little and

as they are only up the road I figured " why not? " So I bought 2 bottles.

However, I'm not planning on making anything with them, my intent is to just

spray clothes, furniture, the carpet in my room etc. I figured it was a

" cheap " way to make things smell Sandalwoody. I'm surprised it didn't occur

to me earlier and of course being your typical impulsive, don't stop to

think about it person, I jumped in with two feet.

anywho, the hydrosol should be here in by Saturday at the latest so I'll be

able to play with it and while I won't be able to dectect bacteria (unless

it makes the water stink) I might be able to tell if it's not " right " .

>shrug<

If not and it does smell Sandalwoody then I'll just go ahead and use it for

it's original intended use.

fwiw... their description of a true S'wood hydrosol matches the samples we

have received from Indian sources... and, needless to say, they are NOT

the source in the northwest that I mentioned with the 'too good to be true'

sample...

the real thing is very close to odorless....
