Guest guest
I wanted to share this here and uplift with all of the trauma that we've been reading. I teach natural childbirth classes in my home in a very comfy space. I have candles lit, pot of water on the stove for tea, arometherapy, lights slightly dimmed. At some point this night we had an in-depth discussion on aromatherapy ~ usually everyone just wants that massage! ~ but last night we talked about how aromatherapy works. I brought out the massage oil blend I use which is rose otto and neroli in a base of fractionated coconut oil which they all sniffed for a few seconds and gave the thumbs up...even a mom who swore rose always bring back bad memories couldn't believe she was smelling rose otto and loving it. Then we did our relaxation. This particular mom was forward facing over a large birth ball allowing her arms to dangle. Dad was at her back rubbing and I heard them chatting. As I listened I realized they were discussing her previous labor ~ which had been a back labor ~ not just the labor itself but what they had done and tried to get through it. Suddenly mom burst into tears and said I can't do this. Dad couldn't see her face but I could see her shoulders shaking. I walked over and placed my hands alongside dad's and kept massaging while motioning to my doula friend (who also does reiki) to come around in front of mom to encourage her to keep talking. Then I had dad go around in front to talk to mom and hear her discussion with my friend while also being to look at each other during this time. I tried to make his touch then mine be seamless as I remained behind mom and kept massaging, stroking and my friend and I talked in soft tones to her. I don't believe it's a coincidence that on this night mom let out her fears. Touch and aromatherapy are an awesome combination for release and under the right environment also empowering. Hearing mom release and visibly seeing her shoulders drop and her whole body sag into the release...it was beautiful to me. I was so happy to hear her cry and let out her emotions. She went home lighter in posture while of course, her emotions were still visible on her face, but it was a good visible. Working her way through now. Thank you everyone here for the years of wonderful sharing of aromatherapy and energy with me! I wanted you all to know that I'm spreading the love! *smile* Dale -- The people who make a difference are not the ones with the credentials, but the ones with the concern. ~ Max Lucado
