Guest guest
I've supported Organic Consumers for a long time and we are in the process of registering some products as organic with their sister org. Butch is absolutely right about checking out any organization, however. Some of them have the exact opposite agenda as the one presented to the public. Another newsletter that I to is from Consumers Union http://www.consumersunion.org/ They cover a wide range of consumer issues beyond the specific interests of our list here, including credit card fee increases, cancellation fees, identity theft, fresh produce safety, and on and on. They are a great resource. Below is my latest newsletter from them, and I urge all of you to keep up with the current prescription drug reform bill in Congress. . . we can't compete with the amount of money the drug companies spend each year to persuade Congress and the FDA, but let's remember . . . there are two super-powers in the world and one of them is the people. Organized, determined and vocal enough, we can change things. As a matter of fact, this is usually the only way that social/safety issues change. Here's an interesting timeline covering the future http://www.jrmooneyham.com/s2049.html Don't have time for a separate post, but there is a new emerging theory about the disappearing bees that has to do with cell phone towers (and cell phones themselves) . . . conversations such as this http://eeng.net/CS/blogs/smileycoyote/archive/2007/04/08/322.aspx are going on all over the blogosphere, including this from Daily Kos one of my favorite blogs http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/4/15/113828/379 I've pinched a nerve in my shoulder/neck, so I'm trying to limit computer time :-( . . . I miss not posting more. Thanks to yarrow/helichrysum crème, rest and other body/mind therapies I'm getting through it. Think I might need a trip to the orthopedic md to look at shoes/posture for the long term, however. Be Well, Marcia Elston http://www.wingedseed.com http://www.aromaconnection.org " Give thanks for a little and you will find a lot. We need 100,000 letters to the Senate in the coming weeks! <http://cu.convio.net/site/R?i=fsLEy2az65mJZtQROfnevg..> Tell your Senator " Thanks " for a good vote and start the push for final passage! Dear Marcia, Thanks to help from thousands of you, your Senator this week voted YES for real prescription drug reform. A " must pass " bill will give you and your doctor more information about hazardous drug side effects--but the drug industry is lobbying to strip off hard won safety provisions. <http://cu.convio.net/site/R?i=INybkUEM38cG5XXzWMCxbw..> Take a moment right now to say " Thanks! " for a good vote! This bill must pass the Senate floor this spring--so the opportunity for real reform is huge. Together we have already sent more than 43,000 messages just to Senators on the key committee that voted this bill out yesterday. Now we need to solidify support in the whole Senate--with a vote coming as soon as next week. Let's get a hundred thousand more calls, letters and emails. Your Senator has already shown leadership, but the drug companies haven't left Washington. They will be out in force, visiting Senate offices and trying to get drug safety protections stripped out of this bill. Drug companies spent an average of $289,000 per member of Congress to create stalemate in Washington between 2005 and 2006--and managed to defeat Medicare drug price reforms on the floor of the Senate just this week. <http://cu.convio.net/site/R?i=oQF-T7Bq1t0v8lDcR5g-Wg..> That's why its critical that you tell your Senator right now " Thanks " and " Hang tough! " Washington is broken, and the only fix is clear, persistent and direct communication from you (alongside a hundred thousand others). Please help us grow this campaign! Every Senator from every state needs to hear from us. Please take a moment to forward this action to everyone you know, and when they click through they will be able to tell their own Senators to support reform, no matter where they live.
