Guest guest
I've been saying for years that water was going to be the " new oil. " Our property is over a major aquifer, there's a group here that is investigating drilling and selling water and has approached all the various landowners who are " over " the aquifer. Negotiations are ongoing with Houston. A few years ago, when we were in the middle of a drought, it seemed rather timely. But we've had a lot of rain this past year (probably 1.5 to 2 inches last night) and our tanks are full, overflowing even. Marcia, regarding growth: it's simply going to happen. I grew up in Austin and watched for years while the City Council and the County Commissioners did everything they could to squelch growth. What happened: the developers found ways around it -- they own the land and have a right to sell it develop it, or do what they want with it. Just like anyone who owns land. What Austin should have done, and it's a good lesson for all cities, is accept that growth is going to happen -- our own population is increasing, not to mention people immigrating into our country and PLAN for growth. People need a place to live. And Marcia, that was not nice at all ;-) accusing me of conservative talking points -- you make it sound all too easy. I have come full circle in my thinking and it involved years of study and observation. I embrace capitalism, it's what has given me what I have. I have worked hard and continue to work hard and I'm grateful for what I have. Do I believe in keeping our environment clean? Absolutely. Do I swallow what Al Gore has to say, certainly not -- it's his platform for running for president. And with that, I'm swearing off this subject because I suspect list Mom is getting pretty sick of it. Dede
