I actually use some toothpaste I get at Whole Foods that has pretty much

nothing in it and when I run out of that I use my Rayne's Purely Mint

Soap. No decyl in that!!

OMG - I was JUST reading about this wondering what the heck is up with

Is the " Made in China " stuff that stays in China so terrible too, or do

they just export the Poop of the crop?

Ok folks, time to start the toothpaste recipe threads again .. Nikie,

you use decyl/mint bar soap, right? Dave, you use Tea Tree impregnated

baking soda, eh? *lol*

I know what you mean, my daughter Hannah asked to put on a rhinestone type tatoo

that came with her shoes and I checked where it was made before I gave her my

answer. Which was no because it was made in China. Sad, really, we have to be

so careful like that.

Now, I'm off to go check my Kiss my Face Organic Toothpaste to see where it is

manufactured before I use it. Otherwise I'm thinking the baking soda infused

with some spearmint might be a good thing. :)

Here's a few recipes to share with everyone : ) I buy tom's of maine without

floride, but it's easy to make your own and then you know exactly what goes into

it : )

thanks for all the info shared here.

suzen

Old Fashioned Tooth Powder

2 Tbsp dried lemon or orange rind

1/4 cup baking soda

2 Tsp salt

Place rinds in food processor, grind until peel

becomes a fine powder.Add

baking soda and salt then process a few seconds more

until you have a fine

powder. Store in an airtight tin or jar. Dip moistened

toothbrush into

mixture, brush as usual.

Basic Toothpaste

1 Tsp of the Old Fashioned Tooth Powder

1/4 Tsp Hydrogen peroxide

Mix into a paste and brush as usual.

Loretta's Toothpaste

1 Tsp baking soda

1/4 Tsp hydrogen peroxide

1 drop oil of peppermint

Mix to make a paste, dip toothbrush into mixture,

brush as usual.

Toothpaste Recipe

by Carla Geovanis

February 3, 2001

2 tablespoons vegetable glycerine (I use NOW brand)

1/4 cup of baking soda

1/2 teaspoon peppermint flavoring oil

Mix these together, and if you prefer a thinner

consistency, feel free to add more glycerine. The

easiest way to dispense your toothpaste is from a

plastic frosting bag--I keep mine in a teacup in my

medicine cabinet. If your grocery store doesn't carry

frosting

bags you can use any small plastic bag--just snip off

a corner. If you use essential oil of peppermint you

may need less flavoring. By the way, do not use

essential oil of wintergreen

in this (or any other!) recipe. Essential oil of

wintergreen is toxic, and should never be used either

on the skin or internally.

Easy Fizzing Toothpaste

1 Tsp baking soda

1/4 Tsp hydrogen peroxide

1 drop oil of peppermint

Mix to make a paste, dip toothbrush into mixture, brush as usual.

Hi Chris

Looks like they have the same problem's at home, not just with exports:

The Guardian UK

" China's food and drug agency chief sentenced to death " :

http://tinyurl.com/ynpu8b

and

This article: http://news.scotsman.com/international.cfm?id=836342007

" Under Zheng's watch, dozens died in China from fake or bad drugs and

food products. In the most notorious case, in 2004, at least 13 babies

died of malnutrition in Anhui province after being fed fake milk

powder with no nutritional value. "

Sad state of affair's over there.... :(

I make my toothpaste too

I use my own honey and wax soap bar(50g), melted in double the

amount of water, a teaspoonful of baking soda, stevia and essential

oils of pepermint 20 dr, lemon or cinammon or cloves 30dr and tea

tree 50 drops. Beat till you drop and make a thick paste but soft

enough to put in a container of your own taste.

I have to confess that gave it to my dentist and she liked it!

You can try it too

Then let me know if you liked it. ;>)

When I get more elaborate than plain salt and soda, I mix a paste with

baking soda and tea tree oil. Lately I've added Dr. Bronner's unscented

liquid soap. I keep it in a small jar next to the bathroom sink and just

dip my brush.

Dave,

Would you care to share your recipe, Please?

Vicki

[Dave]: For years I have simply made a paste with baking soda and tea tree

oil. I've experimented with adding a bit of calcium carbonate or myrrh EO,

but mostly I've kept it really simple. Lately I've made it with baking

soda, tea tree oil and Dr. Bronner's unscented liquid castile soap (it's not

really a castile, but that's what it says on the label). I mix up maybe

half a cup at a time, and keep it in a small jar. It's just lately I've

been using the soap with it, and that has been in response to the

discussions about sensitivity right here on this list. Some people could

have a reaction to using that much tea tree oil on the skin, but it has

never bothered me and I have never heard of a reaction. Still, it could

happen. The soap dilutes the oil and acts as an emulsifier.

In response to the last post about toothsoap I was so interested I did

the same thing. I mixed Bronner's (tea tree liquid castile since

that's what I had on hand) with baking soda, just enough to make it

" pasty " and brushed. I really prefer this to toothpaste. Susan

Thank you.

Also for the advice on wintergreen, one certain group of enthusiasts advises

the use of wintergreen on the feet, glad I didn't try it.

I gather I could use cinnamon oil instead or even just lay the paste in the

jar lined first with peppermint or whatever you want to use.

That is two different but good recipe for toothpastes.

[Dave]: I prefer it, too. Once in a while I'll buy a tube of Tom's or the

ayurvedic toothpaste, but only when I've been really lazy. The fascinating

thing to me is, I've had no dental problems since I quit using commercial

American toothpaste - and I had quite a few problems before. And it's been

many years now. I've only had half a dozen cavities in my whole life of 56

years, but I've had many infections in the roots of teeth that have resulted

in four extractions not counting my wisdom teeth, five root canals with gold

crowns, and several resin repairs of broken teeth. All that was before I

turned 40 or so, and began making my own. Since then, all my dental

problems magically disappeared. A few years ago one of my fillings fell

out; it had been there since the 3rd grade. I've never even been to the

dentist about it because no decay has entered the cavity.

What really disturbs me is what this implies about the dental profession.

I've been convinced for many years that the medical/insurance/pharma is an

unholy alliance that kills people for profit. Not that there are not many

good people within the business, but the industry itself has its vested

interests in sickness, not health. If the same thing is true of the dental

profession - no, dang it. Not another conspiracy theory!

Suzen, and everyone else, thanks for sharing the toothpaste recipes!

I have used the dried, ground citrus peel with baking soda and salt in

the past, and it's worked okay, and stores pretty well in the freezer.

Today I got a little more adventurous...

I mixed 3/4 baking soda to 1/4 salt, sprinkled on some xylitol, added

some peppermint flavoring, and hydrogen peroxide. Mixed in a mortar

and pestle. Oh, that is good stuff!

Thanks for the inspiration.

BTW, I really like xylitol. I use gum and mints that have that as

their only sweetener, and use it in drinks and the like after meals.

But one drawback is limiting the amount you consume. As far as I know

it is not dangerous to over-do it, but there is an upper limit to what

we should get, and it is just so darn good.

Cheers,

Christina

I use clay three times a week or so. Clay water repairs deep pockets

and it draws poison and toxins from the gums like nothing else can. You

can soak cotton in clay water and apply to absesses and ect too. Draws

them right out post haste. It's too abrasive to use clay daily to brush

your teeth with though.

I use peroxide in the water pix. And baking soda to brush with the

other days.

I will mix DMSO in with clay when I need a super powerful, super fast

cure. When I had that brain storm I googled to see if anyone else had.

Didn't fin mych at all, EXCEPT that most horse linament was clay and

DMSO. Horses aren't much good without their legs so they need a quick

and powerful fix. I was angry for two weeks that so many people have

neglected to apply this to humans with the same injuries leaving them

with unhealed pain for the rest of their lives!
