Guest guest
Hello all, It's has been a long time since sending email to the group. Our three year tour in Italy is up and we're moving back to the US of A. I have a question for the group: Is there a nature way to get the grey out of my hair? I really don't want to use store bought hair dye. TIA Rachel (of VA Beach now of Naples Italy soon to be Oklahoma)
Guest guest
Rachel, I do not know how well this works but I've been told that adding Juicing (like one of the " juicers " ) of Kale to your diet will blacken up the hair... but it won't get the stuff that's already grown out. Guest guest
Hi All, There are two things I know work, one is to introduce copper and zinc into the diet and the other is a sage rinse for dark hair. You can try both at the same time. Guest guest
Check out Logona Hair Color Creme. It's made from natural plant extracts, mainly henna, that coat the hair. Logona makes several henna-based products but I like the Hair Color Creme because it's ridiculously easy to apply--just straight out of the tube. It only comes in three colors, though, and you can only go darker or stay with your natural tint, you can't " lift " color or go lighter. [update: I just checked the website below and it appears there may be two new colors in the palette now.] I use it to cover gray and it works beautifully. I can go 8 weeks before I have to touch up my roots. When I use it, I leave it on for three hours rather than the recommended two. Also, one tube lasts me three or more applications (I have short hair) at a cost of $17.99 per tube plus shipping. It comes with gloves and a cap and that's really all you need (along with the requisite towel to protect your countertop and some Vaseline around your hairline in case of drips). However, I find that I prefer to use Logona's pre-color clay treatment and post-color conditioner, as well. They aren't essential for the coloring process but they're great for the hair. If you're still in Italy, see if you can take a look at it in a store there. It's from Germany and not widely sold in the U.S. In fact, the only way I know to obtain it here is via the internet. Guest guest
Hi Rachel Henna is good for dying hair (comes in a variety of colors, not just red). Also Aubrey Organics sells hair color for black and brown hair (mix of henna, indigo, and other herbs; all natural) I haven't seen it sold in stores but they sell it on their website. Guest guest
Welcome back! Below is snipped from a post I made a while back about gray hair - out of the archives from 12/05 *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com , " Christine Ziegler " <chrisziggy wrote: .... For coloring naturally there are less options, and they are harder to come by, but still some are out there. For subtle coloring I've seen recipes for things like sage rinses and black walnut hull decoctions ... For more dramatic coloring there are some commercial products available. When I worked in the natural foods and products industry I came across a line of henna based hair dyes for grey hair that was pretty popular from Light Mountain Henna: http://www.bytheplanet.com/Products/Henna/HennaHair/LightMountain/FAQ.ht m I also recently came across this web site which has some info/stuff you might be interested in: http://www.hennaforhair.com/gray/realgraypeople.html *Smile* Chris (list mom) , " Rachel " <racheljl7 wrote: > > Hello all, > > It's has been a long time since sending email to the group. Guest guest
I used a combination of henna and chamomile for years to color my hair. I’ll look up the exact combination tomorrow. Guest guest
I have found that geranium added to bar soap and used for shampooing will give the gray hair a nice darker color . Guest guest
The old classic book :Non Toxic Natural and Earthwise by Debora Lynn-Dadd has several suggestions for coloring hair. I was trying to find out if her walnut based hair dye recipe was out there online and I stumbled across this stuff: http://tinyurl.com/ytgv67 I especially love this ancient recipe (umm, no I'm not recommending anyone try it *lol*):* */7. How to colour the head or beard into a Chestnut colour in half an //houre. //Take one part of Lead calcined with Sulphur , and one part of quicklime; temper them somewhat thin with water: lay it vpon the hair, chafing it well in, and let it dry one quarter of an hour or thereabout: then wash the same off with fair water diuers times: and lastly with sope and water, and it will be a very natural hair- colour . The longer it lyeth vpon the haire , the browner it groweth . This coloureth not the flesh at all, and yet it lastest very long in the hair, Soepius expertum .
