Guest guest
Hi folks, I'm sending this message out special notice as I believe it is important for everyone to be aware of what went down on the NP group as we found the members were on this list too, possibly contacting folks behind the scenes. We've been working on the new ad day policy, and that is why I had Vickie (one of our wonderful moderators) post the special admin notice today about ad day. I hope to have the new policy in place before Thursday so as not to disrupt ad day for all just because of a few bad apples. I'll keep everyone posted, but I promise - there will be only one more special notice sent out about this! *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ NaturalPerfumery , " anyaperfumer " <anya wrote: Dear Members: This group has been in existence for over five years and we've never had a problem with AD day until the past two weeks or so. All of a sudden, we received several private messages, and there were also some first-hand experiences of group moderators receiving horrible products from two sellers. We were told we have to issue this notice after conferring with an attorney due to the seriousness of the situation. If you have purchased anything from either Ane " Aniba " Walsh or Poh Yee Holmes you may have received inferior, mislabeled, hazardous, or synthetic materials. Reports of moldy, mildewed " bee goo " that was improperly processed by someone with no experience with it, synthetic " mango butter " with a synthetic fragrance added to it that caused skin/lip burns, mislabeled " benzoin " (a grey rocky material from a completely different species of tree) and a raft of other complaints flooded us. There was also moldy loofa that can cause skin problems. The moldy bee goo could be very hazardous to someone with respiratory problems. Vanilla beans were sold by someone with no food handling license; this came to our attention as she was sending out " recipes " for the beans, not using them for perfumery purposes. Vanilla beans are easily contaminated by salmonella and, if not handled properly in the distribution chain, can contain hard-to-detect mold. This mold can also grow if the beans were infused in oil. Just as all this was coming to light, Poh Yee accidentally sent a message to the moderators that was meant for Ane Walsh (they're both on moderation) that showed how they were blatantly using the group for marketing with no regards to ethics. The email was crass and showed a total lack of respect for group members. All this truly horrified us. It was obvious they have little sourcing experience, and they were planning on adding new, untested materials to their AD, along with an aggressive sales campaign. This NP community has always relied on trust and ethics, and we have enjoyed a great reputation as a place to source quality ingredients. In the past, we've had no problems with posting reports of inferior goods from suppliers, as long as the report was firsthand. This is the first time we've had to publicly expose group members. We will be initiating a new AD policy, requiring anyone selling to have at least two years experience, intimate and comprehensive knowledge of their products, business licenses and meeting other criteria. We mods regret this sales scandal. The attorney said this Special Notice should serve as a form of recall. If you wish, you should request your money back from them, and discard any product to protect yourself and your reputation, since it may be synthetic, tainted, or improperly represented. They will be notified not to write to any group member if they to attempt to sell " behind the scenes " as this is a violation of policy. Thank you for helping us keep this group on the right track, and we will move forward with new regs to help protect you and your aromatic investments in the future. On a more personal note, as group " mom " I have put thousands of hours and lots of love into building this group, and it hurts me deeply to think of the group being used in this manner. I have lost a lot of sleep over this in the past week. I promise to go forward with a more vigilant eye on who is selling, and urge you to contact us mods if you have any questions about this incident, as we are here to help. Sincerely, Anya, Chris, Ruth, Liz, Patty and Julia, NP Group Moderators --- End forwarded message ---
