Guest guest
Hi, Well, I have put this off for a longg time. I have never in my life made soap of any kind, or fabric softner either but I would love to do both. I had the best of intentions and even picked up some lye and other goodies, I just never actually tried it. The best I can claim are elixers, salves, poultices, homeopathics, flower essences, tinctures and a few infused oils. Nothing complicated. I tried a few creams with varied and inconsistant results but had no recipe to speak of. Although inconsistant they did serve their purpose. One of the very first ones stained you orange for a bit. LOL I am surprised I tried it again after that. This was a Christmas gift too, Gads! LOLOL Anyway, I want to make liquid shampoo a gallon at a time for my dogs, maybe even concentrated to go farther. I am not interested in selling it, just using it. I looked into it last year and got scared off, it looked like work I could not afford to get involved with time wise. I read pretty much that you have to make bar soap and then grind it and melt it. Is that always the case for liquid soap? I would like to use coconut oil to make it lather, really healthy moisturizing soap for me and them. I do not care for " sweet " smells, clean or fresh scents are what I like. For a first or maybe a second time I would not be good at all at " adapting " a recipe. No way. Another reason I have put this off this long is converting soap recipes. I want a totally healthy, affordable shampoo so badly I asked a family owned soap making company to do this for me and I would even sell it for them to help allieviate their cost. They discussed it and two weeks later called and said it would just cost them too much to do. But then I think they thought I meant replacing coconut oil for their toxic foaming agents and ect., for their entire line. I mean't just one. Anyway, I am here and ready, sort of, I think, and needing help. We all have our areas of giftedness, and this is seriously NOT mine. I am going to see if finding what I am looking for in the archives will be easy enough. I have spent so many hours online each year (accept this one so far) looking for how to soap sites. This just doesn't look easy to me for some reason. Thanks for the opportunity to be here and learn. I was told that the creme da la creme of soap/cream/oil makers are here, I am honored to be meeting you. bt' " There's really five companies that control 90 percent of what we read, see and hear. Guest guest
Liquid soap is pretty easy. If you want contact me as well, and I make lots of liquid soap too... And between you me and helen well get you going in the right direction. And IMHO.. it costs too much money if you choose not to make it. I just found a cool use for one of my soaps. (liquid) cleans algae off of concrete. (I live in TX and with the torrential rains that we've been having I'm actually growing moss on my patio.) My husband was mad about a year ago for the discoloration that my " soapy water " left on the driveway (I came home from a farmer's market and poured the soapy water on the driveway, and haven't had algae or any discoloration on that spot since...) And yes before using it I tested the PH and it was pretty low for liquid soap) So this summer he asked me.. What in the H* & ^ did you pour on the driveway again. I said... Soapy water... He said, and you made this soap? I said, Um... YEAH... like I went and bought soap???Then he said do you have any more of it? I said... Sure do.. And now... My husband cleans the patio/porch/anything that he doesn't want algae to grow on with liquid soap I made that costs all of (pennies a gallon) The whole cost factor goes down when adding water to dilute. Granted distilled water still costs money, but it's alot cheaper than going to the store and getting something like greased lightning (which is just a lye heavy soap product. Hi bt, I saw Helen's generous offer to guide you through the process. I just wanted to let you know that I have about 2 pounds of paste (concentrate) that I would be happy to send you in the meantime. Contact me off list with your address if you are interested. I really appreciate all the leads you gave us and the amount of time you put into your response for my daughter. My way of saying thanks ;-) Linda P
Guest guest
Jennifer, LOL well, has a lot to do with it! Thanks so much I will. I didn't find much in the archives in the way that I typed it in. Mostly what kept coming up were the posts I recently wrote saying I was going to ask for help. LOL (which is just a lye heavy soap product. > > Jennifer (I know what does that have to do with the price of TEA in > china???) I know it has to be cheaper to make it, but then you KNOW what is in it too. It's great to be able to alter recipes to make it the way you need it too! I just bought some nut and fruit trees and I would love to make my own soap and mix it with Kaolin clay (I think because bentonites are anti viral, anti bacterial and anti fungal I will add some of that too, to spray my new trees with, after my bees are done. Don't want to hurt the girls. Didn't think about that until you mentioned the multipurposes. I was going to use boron/borax. You can make dish washing soap too I bet, I am using the grapefruit seed extract dish soap now and probably am stocked up until forever, but still!! Now I am getting real excited. Thank you, thank you!!!
