Hi Group,

I'm silent member of this group.

I need your help to solve underarms waxing problem permanently.

Generally i buy strips and remove hair myself. sometimes i go to parlour. But it

grows within one week to 10 days time. Then can't wear sleevless tops, it looks

ugly. and hair also not grown enough to go waxing. So need to wait for few days.

This duration is troublesome.

I thought to go for permanent hair removal but i don't have any idea how

efficient it is and how to approach someone for it.

Please give some suggestions so i can enjoy wearing sleevless tops always.

Thank you,

Toral.

Hi Toral,

Sugaring would be good - more permanent and hair doesn't have to be

as long as it does for waxing - you could be sugared every 7 to 10

days. Also, you can always shave between sugarings. So many people

think that shaving encourages hair growth and makes hair thicker and

darker, but it really doesn't.

Only thing that is more in the direction of permanent removal is

laser hair removal. Not always effective right away - depends on her

coloring and hair texture. For some people, it just leads to having

less hair, for others it can completely stop it from growing. I'd be

concerned about using laser in the underarm area though because of

all the lymph nodes there. Something about that just doesn't sit

right with me, although I don't think there is conclusive evidence

that it causes problems.

Hope this helps!

John

Can you explain the " sugaring " method for hair removal please.

Hi bobbi,

I got the information below from

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugaring_(epilation)

I found this to be a good acurate description of the process.

John

Sugaring (also known as 'Persian waxing') is a method of hair removal

that has been in use for thousands of years. The process is similar

to waxing, though there are a few differences in the two. Sugaring is

supposed to be less painful because it only sticks to the hair (wax

will also attach to the skin). Since it is made out of natural

ingredients, it is supposed to be less harmful than wax as well;

however, " natural " does not necessarily mean " safe " . Though the

process and the materials usually leaves a sticky mess, sugar is

soluble in water and therefore sugaring involves a relatively easy

cleanup with warm water.

Sugaring paste can be prepared with common household food items, such

as sugar, lemon juice, honey or molasses. Getting the consistency

correct takes some practice for most users. The area to be depilated

is typically dusted with powder prior to application of the sugaring

solution, which is spread on with a spatula, tongue depressor, or

other flat object. After the sticky paste is applied to the skin, a

strip of porous cloth or paper is pressed into the preparation. The

strip is then quickly pulled away in the opposite direction of hair

growth, taking hairs with it.

The above is a description for " sugar waxing " - There is another form

of " sugaring " which is considered to be the ancient form of this

technique. " Sugaring " uses a thick sugar paste consisting of sugar,

lemon and water. The ball of paste is applied and molded, by hand,

against the natural direction of hair growth and with a flick of the

wrist the sugar is quickly removed in the direction of growth- taking

the entire hair (root and all) with it. The same ball of sugar paste

is used over and over again until all the hair has been removed.

There is no risk of cross contamination with this technique making it

a much more sanitary procedure than waxing. Although it's not

painless this form of Sugaring tends to be considerably less painful

than waxing as well. There are a number of reasons for this- The

sugar paste will not adhere to the skin, the paste is heated to body

temperature only, and the hair is extracted in the direction of

growth making it more effective in extracting the entire hair and

leaving little to no breakage.

Pre-made sugar waxing solutions are also sold under several brand

names and can be found in most drug stores. Professional sugaring

products can either be made at home or purchased from manufactures

but they are sold to certified practitioners only.

Hi Sue,

The internet is a wonderful thing. I got the following from another

web site. My cousin has used the method for years and does it for

many clients.

John

AncientHealingOils.com

Ingredients

1 cup sugar

Half a lemon for the juice

1/4 cup honey

A little bit of Molasses if you have any like a drizzle

Cornstarch (to powder with for tautness making it more effective)

Something to spread the mixture with like a tongue depressor,

popsicle stick, cheese spreader or spatula.

Cotton fabric (any old thing you can find or buy some strips at a

store)

Mix lemon, sugar, and honey in a bowl. Microwave on high for about 2-

3 minutes, until it bubbles into a smooth consistency. I find this a

lot simpler then turning on the stove, but it would be safer if you

watched over the heat on the stove. If you use the stove use LOW

heat. Now move away from the mixture and go do something while it

cools a little down so you can touch it safely. A little bit warmer

though is better though to use. Microwave it for 20 seconds if you

find the need to. The NADS commercial said re heating isn't

necessary, but it's no big deal doing so and I find it is necessary

as all sugaring products do need just a little heating.

Make sure your legs or where ever you wish to place it is clean and

dry. Then dust area with cornstarch so it's more effective as it

draws out oil. Spread a thin layer on your leg. Cover with a strip of

fabric, and rubbing the strip the opposite way of hair growth, about

3 times.

Grab the fabric end and pull it off very quickly against the

direction of the hair growth or the other way if you wish. It will

hurt, but after awhile it's a lot less painful. I'm sure you're

strong enough to withstand pain. Reheat the mix if it gets too hard

to spread. This stores for a long time. I just use a vitamin E face

cream container that's plastic since that's fairly big which costs

only a buck at the dollar store. Just make sure it's clean and oil

free. You could also use a glass jar as well.

Hi Toral,

I've had all those important girl sites lasered (Under arms, lower

legs, bikini). I'm also blonde, the ones they don't guarnatee. I

get horrible rashes from shaving my underarms when it's hot, so for

me laser was a no brainer. I had laser 5+ years ago. I do have some

growth return, I shave about one time every 1.5-2mos, and then only

to look fabulous otherwise longer. I figure it's worth it even if I

do have to occasionally shave. DO NOT invest in the very expensive,

numbing lotion. Just take some calming EO blend to sniff with you.

I am a huge chicken, don't like self inflicted pain (Which this

definitely comes under), didn't need it. Took a passion flower and

camomille tab before I went and that was just fine. Do go with a

reputable company, and look for combo area specials. Feel free to

email me off list with any questions.

Lynn
