Glad you are able to deep > water your trees... half the trees I pass on my drive to work are as brown > > as autumn oaks; I doubt they will survive. > Many of the introduced species will not survive .. I'm sure. The bad thing is that many native species are taking a hit .. but its been better than 6 weeks without rain here in Paris and for the last two weeks the temperature days has not dropped below 100 F .. its been 104 - 106 F the last few days. Talked to a cousin in Nashville this morning .. he's on 65 S of Nashville .. said they had a bit of rain last night but not enough to even water the grass well. > Back to the distillers and the shortages... drought in central/southern > europe, and a Noah sized rainy summer in the UK... none of the distillers > of Matricaria that I have talked to have been able to bring in a crop > yet... odds are there will be no UK grown german chamomile in 2007... they > > are trying and hoping...but the odds are against it. > I pretty much got the same kinda report on European crops. Northern Europe can do with a lot less rain than we can because they have a large number of overcast, cloudy days. So too much rain is for them probably more disastrous than too little for us. Cultivated Rosemary crops have suffered greatly in England .. I still have some from last year but doubt if I'll be able to offer it when this batch is gone. Feller wrote in our local paper .. said even if we get an inch of rain tomorrow .. the following day, if the sun comes out bright and we have a 100 + F temperature .. that one inch of rain will evaporate and it will be as if it never happened .. not so in Northern Europe where there is a lotta cloud cover. We're gonna pack up a picnic lunch and drive over to Paris Landing State Park .. around 15 minutes max from here. Gonna wet a line or two from the bank and see if I can teach Alexander how to reel in a big Bluegill .. maybe a Crappie and most likely a Channel Cat. :-P
