Guest guest
For 5 years I have corresponded with a friend in Baghdad, even before the war started. She has a blog that chronicles the life for a family living with war. http://afamilyinbaghdad.blogspot.com/ After she was held up her car hijacked, family threatened with life, she had to flee to Jordan, Amman, My friend is a highly educated woman( engineer for water systems), . Her whole family is safe now, one boy studying in the US ( he is on CNN sometimes) and she has been here a few times , even talking to Congress people about the effects of the war on her people. There is a huge crisis in Jordan of refugee's who can not find work, widows to scramble to survive. My friend started an initiative for women to help themselves with craft things to make , scrounging her richer Iraqi friends to make small investment loans to the women who want to start small businesses. There also is a group of woman from the US who are helping, the project is called the Collateral Repair Project. http://www.collateralrepairproject.org/ I suggested soap making. as one of the projects, but am poorly equipped to be an advisor on this, having only made cold pour soap.Than of course are the problems of language when it comes to ingredients and measurements etc. However,I wondered if there would be someone on this list who is interested in helping with that ., please contact me privately. These woman and children are the innocents of this war and irregardless of our political stance, they could need help to help themselves. As someone's who grew up in the post WW2 years in Germany, I only too well remember Care packets and what a welcome help they where.
