Guest guest
Hi Deborah and listmates, We had a fantastic time! Austin was a lush, green landscape while we were there. Friday was our Meet and Greet, and you could tell it was going to be quite a weekend. We had a wide variety of interests represented: AT enthusiasts, a supplier, soapers, herbalists, oil infusers, massage therapists, and Natural Perfumers. Dinner was a quick trip to Pappadeux. It was a delightful setting, and the food was terrific. As usual, the late night chat was a good opportunity to get to know people better..or at least hear about how to deal with snakes. Yikes! Everyone participated in Saturday's workshops. We kept it interactive, lively, and fun. Most folks were hanging on every word the presenters said. (The AT Bingo may have contributed....) A few people (Cheers to Pat, Nikie, and Stephanie) brought samples. And favors were provided by Stacey and Mary Ann, in a lovely display. I am really enjoying my sachet at the office. We started a business card exchange, which we will continue as a tradition at all our SunConferences. Both the demonstrations of Infused Oils, that Rhavda did; and the soap-making-on-the-spot that Nickie was able to put together (with Jennifer's able assistance) were show-stoppers. I used to be lye shy, now I am only lye cautious. I had the good fortune to be sitting next to Rhavda, and her Vitex-Infused oil. I know what I am going to expirament with first! Stacey filled us in on how to reach out to Newbies, and she let everyone know how to access Martin's free download, and his articles. There was a good deal of discussion about the history of Aromatherapy Organizations, and where the Sun-Conference fits in with the large trade shows and conferences. Another major discussion piece was how to participate in the AT Community. One of our last workshops was a brainstorming session about the Future of Aromatherapy. For those of us in the room, Outreach & Educating the Public are major challenges that we feel we must address. We're still looking at ways to effect change in these areas. Carrie invited us over to her house/AT studio on Saturday Evening. It's a beautiful place to live, and the backyard is so comfortable, we stayed out there for a while. Thanks again, Carrie. It's a SunConference tradition to do something AT-related, first thing on Sunday. So some of the group took off for Zilker Park. The Botanical Garden was gorgeous, lush, and contained history, pre-history, and anthropology. After having been eaten by an assortment of bugs, we split for some serious shopping, then home. That was it for the weekend. The is still going strong, and we expect to use it for each of our get-togethers. I want to be sure to thank Chris and Kathleen for getting the ball rolling on this year's meeting. Kathleen was a big help with PR, too. And going forward, we are going to have these meetings on the Third Weekend of August. This is usually just before school is in session, and while it's still plenty warm. Our next meeting will be in Denver! Hope you can make it! Cheers, Christina
