Guest guest
I just ordered some pots of Lavandula x intermedia " Grosso " and also saw Lavandula augustifolia " Vera " listed as another medicinal lavender (although that one was out of stock). I also notice that just about all of the EOs are augustifolia. What are your favorite lavenders, and for what reasons? Thanks in advance, Judy Judy in Northern Calif T.S. Guest guest
Hello, I'm new here, but I got my very first pot of Lavender this week. I got it at Lowes, just as a trial. It just occurred to me that it might not be suitable. It does not give me a name, except lavender, perennial. I wanted to practice drying with the herb that seems to help me most. Is there any that is not suitable for use dried or as an EO? Jen - Agility Pom Tuesday, September 11, 2007 2:10 PM Favorite Medicinal Lavender? Guest guest
Hey, Judy, The best looker I have had in my tiny yard is one labelled Lavandula california. It is more of that bush with spikes, that looks so nice for decorating. It's not a heavy producer, and though it smells sweet, it lacks the herbal or green note of some of my other plants. Stoches looks messy in the ground, and really does kind of stink when I use it. I still like it, though. It's like the messy-haired relative of angustifolia. My favorite of all time was a plant just marked " French " on the pot, at a garden shop. It had those beautiful spikes of intense color and frangrance. And the green color of that plant was beautiful. It was the first one I owned, and I plucked it and watered it to pieces. Learned to love my plants a lot less often after that. Cheers, Christina
Guest guest
Okay, this is just my opinion and it's quirky and different from most folks The only good lavender is a dead and composted Lavender. Lavender STINKS! My kids like it though and well they should, I've used it on ouches since they were born! Oooh, I just had a thought and OUCH! Thinking HURTS! Stay tuned! Now I can actually stand Lavender. I like the plant of most varieties, but if I could get one of the French High altitude plants and grow it hydroponically I would. Hmmmm wonder if anyone grows herbs other than... Cannabis hydroponically. OOOOOH Dang it. I just get my self deeper and deeper when I talk to you guys. But it's so fun. I'm always running my hand through the leaves and sniffing...then from reading I've been doing, I'm thinking it may not be as beneficial as some others...hence the purchase of the Lavandula x intermedia " Grosso " and planning to get an augustifolia at some point. In the meantime, will continue to LOVE the one I have LOL... Judy in N. Calif.

Guest guest
> I think High altitude french is my favorite. It doesn't give me a > headache and it smells more floral. Are you referring to the actual plant (sitting in its pot right in front of you), or the EO? Oh, my question was probably not too clear LOL...I meant the plant itself although I guess that would then translate into EOs and hydrosols... Although mine are going to be infused into oils. I don't think I've ever sold a bar of lavender...I do finally have some that's nice, so we'll see... I am actually moving into dogs, though LOL...if I could find a really good " eau d' dead worm " that would be great. Guest guest
The wildgrown High Alt French Lavender ( a variety of l. angustifolia) is VERY different from all other lavenders I've experienced ... very nice indeed! It has a sweetness that reminds me of those old fashioned lavender candies (I can't recall the name, I just remember it and Beeman's gum being sold in one funky store when I was a kid)! If I'm going for fragrant, relaxing and/or mood enhancing lavender, I choose the High Alt. French hands down, but if I'm going for real MEDICINAL lavender .. I'd pick on that is more camphorous like Spike (l. latifolia) or Turkish (l. stoechas). *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com , " Jennifer Janek-Markey " <pixieladie wrote: > > I think High altitude french is my favorite. Guest guest
In reading all these posts on favorite oils I can't help but think that God made so many different plants so that all of His creation would have at least one they could love. My problem is picking a favorite...it depends on the day, week, time of year, mood, weather, desire...lol John , Marge Clark <marge wrote: > > At 06:06 PM 9/11/2007, you wrote: > >What are your favorite lavenders, and for what > >reasons? > > they vary... for pain relief, I reach for Lavandin, not lavender, > preferably Lavandula hybrid var. Guest guest
Judy, if you are 'moving into dogs' as in herbal products FOR dogs, please contact me. I am a natural breeder (GERMAN Shepherd Dogs). My dogs don't smell - at all - and they NEVER get bathed, only rinsed off when they get muddy. If dogs smell, its because of what they eat. I'd be happy to share info with you. I love sharing about the natural rearing I do with my dogs. Guest guest
<<If dogs smell, its because of what they eat.>> As emailed to Bonnie off list, I completely agree...most dogs are fed an extremely inappropriate (grain based) diet, causing issues like continual skin allergies and scratching, recurrent ear infections, and dirty teeth. My doggers don't smell bad - they eat raw meat and veggies. It is other people's dogs I'm making things for... Judy in N. Calif.

This batch seized in the pot and will have to be rebatched. I color this particular soap with alkanet root, which is always an adventure color-wise.
