Guest guest
Anybody with any information regarding what it is they put into most shampoos these days? Is it Fragranced Oils? Which they hide it by just saying " fragrance " ? Can't be EO's because they're too expensive. I'm highly allergic (anaphylactically) to FO's. Guest guest
Well it depends. When they put " Fragrance " It could be a whole mess of things. My remedy. Buy unscented stuff from someone some where and put essential oils in it. (drops.. only.) Or you could make your own shampoo bars... (that way you know exactly what is in them.) Or become friends with a soap maker and ask her or him to make you some. Jennifer llaci2003 wrote: > > Anybody with any information regarding what it is they put into most > shampoos these days? Guest guest
I tried this: Dr Bronner's Organic Pure-Castille Liquid Soap-Unscented 32 oz /944 ml and the smell made me gasp for air. " Unscented Baby- Mild is completely fragrance-free. The mild and smooth baby soap is boosted with extra olive oil for added softness to the skin. Perfect for children, people with sensitive or dry skin, or those with allergies. Ingredients Water, Saponified Organic Coconut & Organic Olive Oils (w/ Retained Glycerin), Organic Hemp Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Organic Lavandin Oil, Organic Lavender Oil, Cytric Acid, Vitamin E " Sounds like a lot of stuff just for a bar of soap. So then I must be allergic to something else besides fragrances if this has no fragrance.
Guest guest
You could be allergic to the lavender and lavandin oil. Guest guest
That was my first thought too. Other than that, I would have to say maybe one of the Fats that are listed on the label. I know my aunt has a hypoxic reaction every time she uses anything with palm oil in it. I know someone who requested I make a liquid soap without any nut oils in it because they are highly allergic. And, I know that any time I'm near patchouli I swell up like a balloon, and if smelling the stuff it can make me pass flat out. I would try a single fat soap and go from there... Or, I'd just go to an allergist and have him/her test for whatever it is... Guest guest
Is it a fragranced oil (lavender) that is added to most shampoos? How can I find this out? Allergists know nothing about chemicals.
Guest guest
Laci, Lavender oil is an essential oil. Most shampoos if you look at them have a mixture of sodium lauryl sulfate, ammonium lauryl sulfate (or acetates) Cocobetaine or sodium lauryl sulfoacetate. My suggestion would be to take any shampoo that you are allergic to up to your allergist and they would probably know what you are allergic too. Fortunately some Allergists do know about chemicals and their allergenic properties. Ie. Which ones are more likely to give you an allergic reaction, and if you take the shampoos that you are allergic to up to them. They could probably with in some accuracy find out what you're allergic to by finding out what is in all of them. The thing that is added to most shampoos is Sodium chloride (salt) Citric Acid, outside of surfactants and water. You may just be allergic to most surfactants.. soap is a surfactant (surface reactive agent (I think that's where the term surfactant comes from)) Now as it goes in allergic reactions, do they make you hypoxic and have hives or is it just itching? Then it becomes systemic. Somewhat anaphylactic. My tongue burns the entire time; my tongue starts to swell; my lymph glands throb; my sinuses get full; I have heart palpitations and could have flatulence. I feel confused and weak. Guest guest
Thank you for responding; I'll look into the allergists nearby; and check out the two chemicals you mention. BTW, I read an article whereas people with allergies could easily have an asthmatic reaction to EO's and FO's. I forgot one symptom during my attack: wheezing
