To all list moms and moderators, please forgive if my post is not

appropriate, but I do have OT in the subject line and I'm hoping that

you will help my cause.

Regardless of how you feel about what's going on in Iraq, this email is

not about that. I do not want to start any political emails of the

sort. This is a feel good email.

My son, Marshall, is in the Air Force. He is stationed at the Balad Air

Force base outside of Bagdad. He is with Security Forces and is

currently checking ID's and such of those who come onto the base. He is

trained for his job which entails riding with his flight crew on a C-130

plane dropping off supplies and protecting the crew and the plane and is

awaiting those missions.

On October 24th, he will celebrate his 21st birthday. If any of you

remember your 21st birthday, you know that it is a major birthday!! The

day you technically become an adult. The day you can legally (in most

states) drink! The day you look forward to celebrate with a huge party

with your family and friends. Well, he doesn't get to really do that

this go round. He can't even have a celebratory drink because they

don't allow alcohol to soldiers in Iraq. On top of that, when he was

inducted into the Air Force, his anniversary date is also his birthday.

So, last year when he turned 20, he was on a bus heading to boot camp!

Happy Birthday Marshall!!

Being that I couldn't throw him a huge party to celebrate his birthday,

I pondered on what could be done. I decided to use my connections of

the internet and see if ya'll could help. I'm asking if any of you

would send him a birthday card wishing him a Happy Birthday. You don't

even have buy him a card. If you like, just write a little note wishing

him a Happy 21st Birthday and send it off. The only thing you're out is

the cost of the airmail stamps. This would mean a lot to me and would

really, really be a great surprise to him. He's missing home and his

wife an awful lot and even though you may think you're just strangers or

anything like that. I know he would appreciate it. He's a great kid

and a wonderful person.

If you want to pass this forward, that would be fine. Our letters and

packages have been taking around 13 days to arrive to him.

His address is:

Brown, Marshall A1C

USAF/332 ESFS

APO AEO 9315-9997

Thank you to everyone for helping,

Nikie Brown
