Lots of reasons you have to feel good .. says I.

I SALUTE him .. and all his buddies! :-)

I turned 21 in Vietnam .. couldn't vote or even buy a beer in the USA

back then till one was 21 .. and I think I know how Marshall and

other young folks like him feel about this

Done .. and I appreciate you wanting it to happen.

> He's a great kid and a wonderful person.

I believe you are half right .. I'm sure he's a great person .. he's

proving that now .. at least to me he is. But he's not a great

kid .. he's a member of the United States Armed Forces serving in a

combat zone. We have no American kids wearing the uniform. To Mama

their son will always be their little boy .. but shortly after

Marshall's 20th birthday .. when he graduated from Air Force Basic

Training .. he became a man.

Welcome you are from this end .. and I thank you for raising a son

who has seen fit to voluntarily serve in the proud tradition of an

American Fighting Man.

Y'all keep smiling. :-)

OT: My Son in Iraq

To all list moms and moderators, please forgive if my post is not

appropriate, but I do have OT in the subject line and I'm hoping that

you will help my cause.

Regardless of how you feel about what's going on in Iraq, this email is

not about that. I do not want to start any political emails of the

sort. This is a feel good email.

My son, Marshall, is in the Air Force. He is stationed at the Balad Air

Force base outside of Bagdad. He is with Security Forces and is

currently checking ID's and such of those who come onto the base. He is

trained for his job which entails riding with his flight crew on a C-130

plane dropping off supplies and protecting the crew and the plane and is

awaiting those missions.

On October 24th, he will celebrate his 21st birthday. If any of you

remember your 21st birthday, you know that it is a major birthday!! The

day you technically become an adult. The day you can legally (in most

states) drink! The day you look forward to celebrate with a huge party

with your family and friends. Well, he doesn't get to really do that

this go round. He can't even have a celebratory drink because they

don't allow alcohol to soldiers in Iraq. On top of that, when he was

inducted into the Air Force, his anniversary date is also his birthday.

So, last year when he turned 20, he was on a bus heading to boot camp!

Happy Birthday Marshall!!

Being that I couldn't throw him a huge party to celebrate his birthday,

I pondered on what could be done. I decided to use my connections of

the internet and see if ya'll could help. I'm asking if any of you

would send him a birthday card wishing him a Happy Birthday. You don't

even have buy him a card. If you like, just write a little note wishing

him a Happy 21st Birthday and send it off. The only thing you're out is

the cost of the airmail stamps. This would mean a lot to me and would

really, really be a great surprise to him. He's missing home and his

wife an awful lot and even though you may think you're just strangers or

anything like that. I know he would appreciate it. He's a great kid

and a wonderful person.

If you want to pass this forward, that would be fine. Our letters and

packages have been taking around 13 days to arrive to him.

His address is:

Thank you to everyone for helping,

Hi Nickie.

My heart goes out to you now with your son serving in Iraq. I know of the

pride and also the fear that you have for him, because my son is in the Infantry

of the Canadian Military. Although he celebrated his 20th this year away from

home, he is not overseas yet, that will prob be next year. The birthday card

is a great idea, and I will forward your request to friends and family as well.

I would love to see his surprise when he receives bags of mail!

Marshall is in our hearts and our prayers...Take care

Joanne from Canada

Consider it done! But can you tell me how many stamps, or if special stamps are

required, to send a card to Iraq?

BTW, my son also turned 21 in the service. We haven't seen him on his birthday

since he turned 18 but next month we'll be spending his 23rd with him, in

Seattle :o) He just returned from a mission in the Arctic where he was an

officer aboard the polar icebreaker/research vessel USCGC Healy. He counted 22

polar bears and a whole mess of ice....

just a word about the zipcode... I took a card ready to mail to the

P.O and the clerk said it was incomplete and wouldn't get to its

destination....

is there a zero missing as the first number or anything?

thanks....Harri

Hi Harri,

It will get there, but it just seems that my son read me the address

weird. The last line should be

APO AE 09315-9997

But even written as it was before, all of our letters and packages have

gotten to him.

Thanks again,

Nikie Brown
