Guest guest
Aromatherapy, herbs, natural living, etcHi everyone :-) I don't post much as I haven't been working with my oils since gardening season started, but now that is dying down so I have time for other things. I have a bottle of Patchouli that I went to use in a shower get the other day and it was the weirdest smelling stuff I've ever sniffed! It was not a new bottle - I used it last winter when I was making soaps, but this bottle almost has a chocolate smell to it. Didn't smell like that when I used it last either. Ever heard of that? I didn't like it AT ALL and want another bottle. Can anyone recommend a really good source of patchouli? I used some sweet orange and patchouli lotion in the health food store today and now I want to make some myself!! Thanks Carla

Guest guest
Hi Carla, I'm not an expert so take what I say with a pinch of salt. The first thing I though of when I read your post is, have you got a head cold? I find that when I have a head cold I can still smell but things smell completely different to me. The other thing I thought is to ask you, did you smell something else first? Sometime I find that when I smell something very strong that it effects the way I perceive the *next* thing I smell. Check the oil out again and please do let us know. Patchouli doesn't go " off " and infact improves with age. Just as a matter of interest, how were you going to use patchouli in the shower? Guest guest
Hi Ruth, Thanks for responding :-) I don't have a headcold, but something is up with the Patchouli. I have 2 types here - 2 bottles of Pogostemon Cablin (china) - one is by NOW and says 100% pure and the other I bought off ebay. The other type I have is Pogostemon patchouli (Indonesia) by Wyndmere and also says pure essential oil. My hubby also has sweet Patchouli FO in the bathroom and that's the one we like the best. The EO (at least the Pogostemon Cablin) has a weird smell to the patchouli almost chocolaty if that makes sense. I'd heard that they get better with age, but I don't know - better find a new sourse! LOL Oh, I have a shower gel base that I add EO or FO to and that's what I was making for hubby:-) Take care, Carla in SD , " Ruth Ruane " <ruth wrote: > > > Hi Carla, > > I'm not an expert so take what I say with a pinch of salt.
