Guest guest
Hi, got to put my 2 cents in. I am an Asthma Educator, and nurse, with 2 asthmatic kids, (who still smokes outside). Asthma is a 2 fold reaction to an irritant,(airborn, ingestion, sensory ie stress anxiety) 1 inflammation, 2Mucus production, both causing constriction of the airways. Repeated episodes of asthma attacks cause scarring of the bronchus, bronchioles (Air passages). As one ages, the scarring caused by the attacks restricts the airways, so when the irritant strikes, the symptoms seem more frequent, and severe. The goal with asthma treatment is to block ANY inflammation, or mucus production to reduce scarring. Stuff gets worse as the engine ages. My childrens asthma isn't bad, for 2 main reasons. We know their triggers, and manage them, we treat early, at the first sign of any respiratory problems including sinus congestion. That was new to me, and I let my daughter go treating only her sinus congestion, and not starting her rescue meds until I heard her cough or wheeze. Going through the course taught me a whole lot about a disease I thought I knew. Glad I did it, I manage over 400 children with asthma at my school. Regarding Advair, it is recommended as a maintenance medication only, not a rescue med. That is it is taken one time a day every day, not just when your symptomatic. Tghe reason for this is, that its action is over days, not minutes or hours. It is definitely not fast acting! It's a combination of a steroid and bronchodilator. Google Advair and go to their website for information. You can also go to www.drugs.com for 'unbiased' info. Albuterol/Ventolin/Proair, (All the same med) is, and works within minutes to relieve symptoms. Misuse of medication, OTC or prescription, like EO's, and herbs is a dangerous thing. Please check your resources twice and thrice. Don't put your life at risk. We also use honey, fresh squeezed lemon, and mullien leaf tea to manage URI symptoms in our house. I also invested in adjunct systems for our HVAC system in the house to reduce dust, and all our animal hair, (No animal allergies, just reaction to particulate matter). I make a mean aerosol spritz with a variey of EO's including Oregano to keep the bad bugs out. Best to all of you with respiratory issues as we approach the flu season, guard yourselves, and boost your immune systems. Remember lose the hand shakes gove a hug, spreads less germs! Maybe for real asthma (I wheeze on the exhalation only)you shouldn't use Advair as a rescue med, but for hypersensitive lungs, it works very well. It lessens the wheezing and inflammation immediately. My doctor's son is asthmatic and plays lots of tennis so she knows all about Advair and how to use it. The American Lung Association sponsors it. The instructors are physicians and nurses who specialize in pulmonary disease. Physicians who are general practioners, Emergency Medicine specialists, Physicians who do double duty in clinic settings, Nurses who do the same thing, take the course to better serve their patient populations. Great for School Nurses, as they see huge populations of children, and the number one reason for absence is respiratory illness. To answer the Mullien leaf question, I buy it in bulk from Camden Grey, but there are others who sell it. I mix mine with Rooibos leaves, a wonderful antioxidant 'tisane' type tea, with a zing. Mullien doesn't taste great on it's own, in my opinion. Sorry so late to answer, computer problems, and lots of school work. Lynn
