Guest guest
This is an issue that directly affects the stability of medicinal herb and aromatic crops (especially organic), not to mention food crops. In a larger sense, radioactive waste is directly connected to myriad health issues in addition to the contamination of crops, by contamination of groundwater, rivers and streams. It's time to make our most visible statement yet to stop some $50 Billion in taxpayer loan guarantees for construction of new atomic reactors-loans that even the Congressional Budget Office says will have a 50% failure rate. This is a waste of our tax dollars that could be better spent on developing alternative sources of clean energy for the future. The industry wants these subsidies because after fifty years, atomic power has been rejected by the marketplace. In fact, Wall Street will not independently invest in more of them, and still no private insurance company will underwrite the possibility of a major reactor disaster. This is not surprising given the industry's dubious safety record, high economic costs and overruns, and inability to solve the problem of radioactive waste disposal. Here's a good organization researching and providing information about the dangers of Nuclear energy. http://www.nirs.org/ And here is the site where you can add your voice to protest the Energy bill in Congress that will use your tax money to subsidize this dangerous industry. Urge your Congressional representatives and Senators to fund alternative energy for the future instead. http://www.nukefree.org/ Marcia Elston/Samara Botane/Nature Intelligence http://www.wingedseed.com <http://www.wingedseed.com/> http://www.aromaconnection.org <http://www.aromaconnection.org/> " Historically, the most terrible things - war, genocide and slavery - have resulted from obedience, not disobedience.
