Guest guest
Howdy y'all, Here comes Butch again taking some folks to the School House .. and boring others. ;-) But I hope this post may be of value to some folks. The below testimonial will be Old Hat for many of you .. but I believe that there will be some who will appreciate the information because .. even though you might not fear this test .. there is a certain amount of dread with most any medical procedure This morning I had a Colonscopy .. it was the most simple and uncomplicated procedure I have ever experienced .. the ONLY hard part was not being able to have a cuppa coffee when I woke up. ;-) I went in at 7:00 .. by 7:15 they had an IV in my hand and it included some sort of medication that caused me to hallucinate because though I was wide awake .. I imagined that the nurses were all walking trees .. and I saw a great big, beautiful stone in the center of the room .. it must have weighed 30 tons or so .. bright blood red and shiny .. looked like a ruby. I dozed off at some point and then around 7:30 or so they wheeled me into the surgical room and stuck an oxygen device in my nose .. then the doc came in and the nurse told me to roll over on my side and face her. I did as she asked .. and then a few minutes later she asked me if I would like some juice or a cuppa coffee .. I said " Sure, but can I have it now? " She said .. " Yes, the procedure is over. " I looked around and realized I was in a different room. I told her I must have been asleep during the procedure and she said I had not been asleep .. that the doc and I talked to each other quite a lot the entire time I was in the surgical room. The coffee was great! ;-) Since I couldn't drive home I had planned to take a taxi . I live out in the county .. around 12 miles from the town of Paris (pop: 9,800 or so) .. but when the nurse called for a taxi they said they did not go that far out of town. I was a bit drowsy but I gave myself a Field Sobriety Test .. walked the line, did an About Face, arms outstretched and finger to nose and all that good humma-humma .. and I passed the test .. so I told her I could drive home. She would not accept that. Since I have a couple of police officer buddies here I told her I would walk downtown to the police station and get one of them or whoever was on duty to give me a ride home. She wouldn't accept that either .. and she drove me to my home in her own vehicle. That is one of the benefits of small town living .. and its sorta what one can expect of Southern Hospitality. :-) The feller who lives down the road from me called a few minutes ago to see how I was .. and he volunteered to take me back to town around 4 to retrieve my vehicle. The short of it is .. I came out fine .. and the doc told me to come back in 10 years. ;-) The importance of this post is to maybe remove any dread folks who have never had this procedure might have .. and .. to emphasize the importance of getting this test if one is over 50 .. especially men folks. Regardless of what other tests one gets during a physical, there is no way to determine if one has a colon problem without this test. I have two friends in Georgia who had the test and they did have Colon Cancer .. one was treated in 2001 and the other in 2005 .. both are in great shape now because the problem was caught early. So .. I would recommend that folks NOT do what I did (I put it off for 15 years) .. but DO do what I am recommending now .. get the test if you are over 50 or even younger if you show any of the symptoms of a potential problem .. and do NOT have the slightest bit of reluctance or dread because you will be totally surprised at how simple it is .. absolutely no pain before or afterward. Y'all stay healthy .. and keep smiling. :-) Butch
