Guest guest
Hey Kathleen, You are not up to it .. you are merely a Contrarian who likes to try to pull my chain. ;-) > " I realize that this message is from a Conservative point of view .. Some protest Black History Month and Miss Black America and such because there are no History Months for other races .. and there is no Miss Asian or Miss Indian or Miss Mexican pageants. There are those who protest Christmas and New Year and Halloween .. claiming they are pagan holidays. And Independence Day .. did we not take the Colonies from the Brits? Some protest MLK Day claiming that the real story of MLK, Jr. has not been told .. and Washington's Birthday cause he was a traitor .. some say Labor Day is a Commie Holiday and Good Friday and Easter are too religious to be celebrated in a society like the USA .. some (who don't know their history) protest Confederate Memorial Day and Jefferson Davis' Birthday .. claiming (falsely) that they honor folks who supported slavery. And there are protests of many of the special national (not federal) holidays recognized by Presidential Proclamations over many years. I expect that some Mexican folks are not so happy about the remembrance of many Californians for Lt Col John C. Fremont .. but if he hadn't showed up on the scene likely it is that if you and yours wanted to live where you are now, you would be subject to the whims of some local Padre. By the way .. he was later a candidate for the presidency .. in the Radical Republican Party. They were a bunch of hard-line Republicans who were upset with Lincoln's position on slavery and with post-war reconciliation with the southern states .. the party later changed their name to Democrat. ;-) > Tons more on the same theme, just wanted y'all to know, that It could be > done. ;-) Not a problem to find disgruntled folks who make a living putting a " spin " on history or present day social/cultural events .. but even those folks oughta be thankful that they can do it .. feller in China just got 8 years in prison for praising the Dali Lama and there are many other countries where speaking your opinion can get you jailed. > One Caveat though... with all due respect to the Native Americans, this is > not how I feel things should be. Of course not .. folks who know me well know that for the last 9 + years I have had a Spirit Guide/Helper .. which is not (in my opinion) in conflict with any other beliefs I might hold .. and I am a student of American Indian history .. but it has nothing to do with seeing the ancient Red Man as being a Noble Savage. ;-) There were basically two types of American Indian Groups .. and most of them were from time to time both types. They displaced each other for land .. many groups who wound up riding horses and slaying buffalo in the Great Plains had slowly worked their way across America from the East .. displacing other groups as they moved onward. These groups who were using stone age weapons finally met up with a larger tribe of folks who used the same tactics they had used but had better weapons .. and who would not be displaced. I think the only official or logical regrets today over the US Government's treatment of the American Indians back then was the broken treaties .. there is a lot of shame there but it apparently seemed like a good idea at the time. And .. even in Europe at that time folks weren't near as civilized as they are today. The American Indians had existed long before the Europeans knew they existed .. and defeat is never pleasant but their defeat was inevitable. There was no way the American Indians could have continued to be masters of their own destiny after they were exposed to civilization .. and Manifest Destiny. Today most of the groups have Casinos where there used to be buffalo. That might be something to be thankful for. ;-) > Cheers! > Kathleen Petrides > The Woobey Queen > Http://www.woobeyworld.com Yep .. and you .. and Happy Thanksgiving to you .. Contrarian Witch ;-) Butch .. http://www.AV.AT.com PS: Been raining like crazy here all last night and today .. rained half the days of November .. my buddy is in GA where the lakes are dry now .. he called me a while ago and asked if I reckoned the dams here were so full that TVA might let a bitta water flow downstream. Said he sure would be thankful if they did. I reckon happiness comes in many forms .. some small and some large .. depends on where we are sitting at the time. Guest guest
" you are merely a Contrarian who likes to try to pull my chain. ;-) " I'll plead guilty the the latter part, but not the first. LOL! >smiling all innocent like and batting my stumpy little eyelashes furiously< Can't help it if I saw a challenge there. ;-) Happy Thanksgiving to you, Tanya and the Great One. $5.00 a pound for goose?! Shoot! I'd take that in a heart beat compared to prices HERE for a Honker. Just another thought that bounced into me teeny brain. ;-) K On 11/21/07, Butch Owen <butchowen wrote: > > . > > >
