It is so sad on so many levels. Self > acceptance is the secret of real beauty. I knew dozens and dozens of young ladies in Turkey who had operations because they didn't like the shape of their noses. One thousand + years ago Turks were a pure ethnic group but today, 99.9% of them are a nation .. as is the case in the USA .. and many of them have enough Arabic blood to cause them to have somewhat of a hooked nose. I reckon there are probably as many plastic surgeons there as we have in the USA .. just a lot less costly in Turkey. There is danger anytime one is subjected to anesthetics .. I'll never forget the time when the wife of a Lt Col, US Army, in Turkey died on the table while getting a nose job .. he was left with 4 young ones and no mother for them. The Helluvit was that she was a very pretty lady prior to deciding to get the operation. Unfortunately, in many countries external beauty is a major key to success in business .. it gets the foot in the door. There is some evidence of that in the USA too. In many countries I have worked in external beauty was also important for marriage .. for financial security .. marrying " Up " was usually preferable to staying where one was, and those who had the big bucks wanted the finest looking home, car and wife they could afford. Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch .. http://www.AV-AT.com

I remember some years ago when liposuction was all the rage and thinking, " The lymph system is being invaded, destroyed - what happens to the body when an infection sets in and there is a very compromised lymph system? " That last sentence of yours - wanting the finest looking home, car and wife they can afford - really bothers me. Homes and cars are possessions - wives, no. It is the dominant paradigm in many countries where women are thought of as possessions - we see in in this country, too. When women feel that they are only possessions, can the nip and tuck mentality, the skin bleaching, the dangerous tanning be far behind - for, if there is no inherent worth other than external beauty (whatever that might mean - and who defines that?), then the " possession " must do all it can to be " desirable.
