Guest guest
I finally tried the CPHP that Chris does, she wrote about the process on this list ages ago. Well, I have a few questions, don't like the way the batch turned out at all, so I was hoping for some trouble-shooting thoughts: 1. When I left it to cool after reaching gel with the lid on, it foamed up. Huh??? ;-) 2. The texture of the soap is a little spongy (maybe b/c of the foaming action?). 3. It is ugly! Not a smooth, creamy texture or look, but lumpy and more translucent than my usual batches. Thoughts? Thanks! -- Debbie deb www.debrasrhapsody.com
Guest guest
Hi Debbie, Does Chris do it in the cp pot then put the pot in the oven? I can't remember. If that's it, then the stuff you describe sounds about right. I know mine puffed up a bit time and again while cooking. I just stirred it down. The soap does seem a bit more translucent than regular cp does. And, unfortunately the only way to get cp smooth soap is by doing cp. I think when you get it out of the pot and slam it down in your mold it will smooth out a bit. I just made some seriously rockin Jasmin Mimosa soap and Turkish Rose Absolute soap using this method, and while it's not too pretty they both smell soooo....... good!!! I love using this process when using the exquisites ya know. Guest guest
Hi Debbie, Hmmm, if it got foamy it sounds like it got a little too hot .. but you said that happened when it cooled? Remember to always be sure and keep that oven temp WAY DOWN. Its not a roast, its soap and its just need a little heat to act as a catalyst for the chemical reaction taking place The spongy thing may very well have to do with the foaming action, as that surely would incorporate air into the mix. Now, whenever one does HP and then molds it, it won't be smooth on top. An easy remedy for that (especially if you log mold) is to trim and them make a soap sack, sachets, or samples from the trimmings. Also, some formulas come out smoother doing HP than others. For example, my Lemongrass Spearmint recipe pours out much smoother than my Shea and Sea Mud does. Also, never discount your water when you do HP otherwise you will most certainly get glop to deal with smoothing out! I hope that helps out some and your next batch is much more to your liking remember, you can always chunk this one up and rebatch it, in the oven ... {grinz} *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com , Debra McDuffee <deb wrote: > > I finally tried the CPHP that Chris does, she wrote about the process on > this list ages ago. Guest guest
Hi Margaret, Yep .. I CP in the pot and then pop the pot into a warm oven for the HP portion (under 200F if you can, or I put it into my broiling hot car in the summer, which is about 9 months long here Mine only puffs up if it gets too hot (which has happened {sheepish grins}. If that happens, I too give it a good stir and let it cool some before adding the scenting oils and then molding it. The slamming it down after molding to get air bubbles and spaces out is definitely the way to go. Also smoothing the top with a spatula helps too. Its not smooth like a sheet of ice, but really isn't so bad aesthetically in many cases either! I too like using this particular method, especially for soap with more precious aromatics (as it seems to eat less scent), but for me its also practical with having the kiddos - not leaving lye heavy anything around here is far safer! *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com , mohea wrote: > > Hi Debbie, > > Does Chris do it in the cp pot then put the pot in the oven?
