Guest guest
Hey Chris, > > >Over the past year and a half I've lost about 35-40 lbs, all from > > >exercise and portion control. > > > >Congratulations .. you done gud fer'shur! :-) > Its been a lot of hard work, but worth it, cause I'm worth it No > pills, no starvation or diets, no silly fads, just determination. Determination is what we need when we have options. Prior to modern times few folks (except members of royalty who were not engaged in warfare) had options. ;-) > >I recall that ... after Sean was born you bounced back and > >.. and even a couple of years later you still had good form > >.. so I reckon you put most of that extra weight on in a relatively > > short period. > Yep, it only took a matter of months! It was called being pregnant > with JJ ;-) Hey, when I'm pregnant I'm hungry and I eat! Enough other > deprivations come with pregnancy, I wasn't about to restrict my food > when hungry! A gal has to have something *lol* Man, that was the 2 > times in my life I made all you can eat buffets well worth my dollar! > {grinz} Used to be if I got hungry days I'd have a liter of Ayran and a double portion of Iskender Kebab and nights I would eat a liter of ice cream a 3-4 Baklava .. now when I am hungry days a cuppa coffee and a handful of nuts will satisfy me for a few hours .. nights its a beer and a handful of nuts. ;-) >> (Snipped) .. as we age the metabolism slows down and .. >> .. the same amount of exercise we performed a few years >> earlier will not burn the same amount of calories we burned >> at that time ... this changed begins in the 30s > Oh tell me about it. Everyone joked cause I was 30 when I had JJ and > they kidded that the weight wouldn't come off so easily cause I was > getting older, and curse them all *lol* cause when the baby turned 3 > and I was still about 45 lbs over weight I said " Its not baby weight > anymore, now I'm just fat! " *lol* Being over 30 did make a difference! Yep .. them that are not forced to exercise (like soldiers or athletes) have to get back to what you mentioned above.. determination. >> (Snipped) be real careful because you can hurt yourself and if >> you do you might find that it stays with you for a long time and it can >> hamper future efforts to stay in shape. > Yes, I agree, I guess I didn't make it clear that I'm not doing > anything crazy! I get on there a few times a week, > listen to some good music and schvitz like a boiled matzoh ball for 40 > minutes. Good it is .. ceptin' your schedule forces you to exercise evenings .. true this is for almost all folks but they would be better off doing it early mornings .. more benefits quicker and less chance for injury. > The only reason I'm sore now is because I'm doing a shorter cardio > workout now and beginning to work on isolating individual muscle > groups now. One day its abs and arms. Next day its legs and chest, etc > Oh, and for the record, I didn't do anything wild like 75 sit ups > day 1! *lol* I did a set of 20 crunches, then I did a set of 20 leg > lifts, then I did a set of 20 other reps of a low stress exercise that > isolates the abs .. etc ... I also did that over a period of about > 10-15 minutes, breaks in between sets, etc ... Bennies from leg lifts are comparable to those from sit ups. Resistance training is good anytime. >> (Snipped) folks who think they have hit the wall on exercising is >> WALK at a fairly rapid pace (minimum 30 minutes) every day .. 7 days a >> week. If you are at the wall .. DO NOT start out jogging. > I agree! Heck, I hate jogging at all! For sure .. as is swimming. >> There is lots of research showing that a fat butt is far more >> healthy than a fat gut .. lots of bad things can happen to >> our insides if we have a fat gut. > I was telling that to a gal pal of mine the other day who was telling > me her fiance is all skinny except his gut! There are studies showing that fat guts can lead to HBP, high cholesterol, high blood sugar, heart disease and some other problems. Supporting these studies are others that claim that waist size and fat distribution is more important than actual weight in predicting health risks. > Bad thing for me is that is where I tend to carry my weight too. I do buy this one .. I want to buy it. ;-) > They recently said that folks who are thin sometimes at greater risk > because many of them think " Oh, I'm thin, I don't need exercise " but > we ALL need exercise of some sort. Could be .. but thin folks normally have less bone structure than those who are heavier .. that's getting into a whole different subject on how the body carries what it has to carry. >> But many doctors are not buying it .. there was a poll: (Snipped) >Who knows what to believe at that point?!? Sheesh! Yep .. one study reported last week says that reducing cholesterol doesn't lower risk of stroke .. it lowers risk of heart disease. Then there were two recent articles I read which said: 1. " While exercise is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle, working out too much can weaken your immune system and cause stress fractures, insomnia and headaches. But don't jump off the treadmill just yet . Medical experts believe hitting the gym isn't harmful unless you're working out for over an hour a day. It's important to note that optimal exercise amounts vary depending on your age and health, among other factors. " 2. http://www.thatsfit.com/2007/11/29/sneaky-fat-factors-that-can-contribute-to-wei\ ght-gain/ >> take Jim and the younguns and go back to Turkey .. to the >> mountains of Kizilcahamam (around 30 km outside of Ankara) >> and relax in the natural hot springs. > I would LOVE to .. but I think I traveled to that part of the world > JUST in the nick of time. I'm not going anywhere near the Middle East > right now, and although Turkey is the Near East, its too near the > maniacs in the Middle for comfort! I reckon I gotta support Turkey. ;-) In all my years in Turkey I felt more safe on the streets than I even do now in any large city in the USA. Was a time in the early 90s the Revolutionary Left terrorist organization killed a couple of my buddies .. up close .. head shots. But except for one empty written threat around 2002, I was never concerned about Islamics. Turkey is extremely safe for the tourist and for those who keep a relatively normal (not high) profile lifestyle. Keeping such a profile was never my character. ;-) The odds of a tourist being harmed or even robbed in Turkey are less than those of being victimized in most US cities .. including Sugarland, TX. And odds of the man on the street coming to your defense in a Turkish city or town are far greater than they are in most any large city in the USA. My odds went up considerably toward the end but it was with eyes open .. you and a couple of others know that I took on a " shady " organization in a criminal case (involving credit card fraud) that lasted over 2 years .. they never believed I would file charges because they knew my CC company did not make me pay for the fraud .. and maybe I wouldn't have if they had not tried to buy me off .. that convinced me to go for the throat. After I filed charges they didn't believe I would stick it out in the court system .. and I couldn't have done it if I had had to pay my attorney .. he was a top dollar legal representative but he was a buddy whose father is Deputy Prime Minister .. a good Moslem but not an Islamic fanatic. He considered their actions an insult to Turkey. He worked his butt off on the case and charged me ZERO. We had a good idea of when the panel of judges were going to slam down the gavel and felt pretty certain of the verdict .. that's why I moved my family out of Turkey 3 weeks before I left The judges knew that I was planning to leave Turkey and on the day I flew out they imposed a sentence of 3 years and 9 months in the slammer on the top cat of the organization. From the git go they did not believe they would lose and I felt confident that the profile of the case was such that I would not be directly threatened .. but accidents can always happen in a city. ;-) In any case, I'll not be going back real soon but I will go back .. that is a given. There are too many good things about Turkey that I miss .. the upsides of life there far outweigh the downsides. I expect that folks who live in large cities in the USA can relate to what I am saying. Security never bothered me when I was single .. I knew how to exercise the proper amount of caution and vigilance based on real (not perceived) threats ... but when I married and after our son was born I had to walk a different path. We are happy and totally secure here .. 24 hours a day Scout, the Golden Retriever who owns all within her sight, olfactory capability and hearing is always on guard .. and I have appropriate security systems in my home. In addition, two good buddies stay with us .. Mr. Remington and Mr. Colt. ;-) I did not feel near as secure during our trip to Washington, D.C. and we were staying at the Army-Navy Club within 3 blocks or so of the White House! > I'm so glad you, Tanya and Alexander are here! Thanks much. Me too .. and glad I am that Tanya is not in Russia. And unfortunately, she has no plans to visit family there in the near future because Alexander has an American Passport. Not that he would be in harm's way but there are bureaucratic hardships that could be faced and if that happened the US Government would not be in a position to assist. There is much confusion there now .. not so much for Russian citizens who keep a low profile but its my opinion that American and even European citizens should closely evaluate the situation before they decide to take a vacation in Russia now. >> Y'all stay healthy .. don't do dumb things cause but a few of us can >> do such for years and survive .. and keep smiling. :-) > Thank you and yes, I should have been much more clear about what I'm > up to. I certainly don't want to give anyone a reckless impression, > especially if it leads anyone to think recklessly themselves. Good it is .. and hoping I am that folks reading this will not make the mistake I made years ago. As is the case with use of EO .. more is not better when it comes to exercising. > For me its all about being healthy, a lot more than just being svelte! > My goal is to fit into my old wardrobe that fit me comfortably for > many years, less than hitting a certain number on the scale Yea .. I can relate .. I gotta few clothes that I am holding for better times. ;-) > Once again, thank you all, and Butch for the love, support and > suggestions! It means a whole heckuvuh lot! Welcome fer'shur. > *Smile* > Chris (the incredibly slowly shrinking list mom > http://www.alittleolfactory.com Y'all have a good one .. and keep smiling. :-) Butch .. http://www.AV-AT.com <http://www.av-at.com/>
