Guest guest
Hi - My half-sister is undergoing chemotherapy & radiation for a malignant brain tumor. One side effect is very dry and sensitive skin. I'm wondering what oils would be good to use in a skin lotion for her? Thanks, Sandy
Guest guest
HI Sandy I'm going to defer to the AT people on the list, but when I was undergoing radiation for breast cancer, I did a little research and went with lavender and (blue/German)chamomile for my radiation burns in an aloe base. An important point here is that if she is using the lotion in the vicinity of the radiation treatment clear it with the docs. Some ingredients, such as anti-oxidants, will interfere with the treatment. And if she is using it on the burn area, use an aloe base; do not use any oils or butters as that will exacerbate the burn. But if it's a matter of dry/ irritated skin in other areas, something like Shea Butter is perfectly fine. You can get Aloe Butter now too at many on-line retailers. Best wishes to her and you. Here is a link about medicinal mushrooms and chemo/radiation. I am not sure that they will help the dry skin condition, but they may improve her overall health. http://www.fungi.com/mycomeds/info.html Perhaps, too, some black currant seed oil taken might help the skin - not sure about the interference with the chemo/radiation. Here's another link: http://counties.cce.cornell.edu/columbia/SteveMcKay/TIRA/blackcurrantoil.html All the best to her and the family, ~Kathy
