Guest guest
So, Dr. Mercola has a new body butter out, which sounds really nice, but I am suspicious. How is this not growing any nasties? Is there an ingredient in there that preserves and I am missing it? http://products.mercola.com/natural-body-butter/ -- Debbie deb www.debrasrhapsody.com
Guest guest
The only thing that might help is the mounolaurin (sp?) Under the description it says it has antimicrobial activity. Something to look into. I'm not familiar with it. Other than that there is no preservative listed. -- Margaret Helm-Duell Mohea Natural Beauty LLC -------------- Original message -------------- Debra McDuffee <deb So, Dr. Mercola has a new body butter out, which sounds really nice, but I am suspicious. Guest guest
According to info I found, Monolaurin in a non-toxic preservative which prevents the growth of viruses and bacteria. Guest guest
So why is this not huge? I feel like all of us in a quest for natural preservatives would have found it.Why do more companies not use it? I am curious and suspicious, but I guess that is a good combination! ;-) Debbie Linda Kellum wrote: > According to info I found, Monolaurin in a non-toxic preservative which prevents the growth of viruses and bacteria. Guest guest
Its quite possible that the aloe vera gel itself is preserved with a preservative by the raw materials manufacturer and therefore the preservative, since its not added by the formulator, does not have to be disclosed. This is done with herbal extracts in lotions and supposedly " preservative free " products all the time! This is one topic I am constantly on top of, and thankfully have the help of a lab full of cosmetic chemists, who get daily updates about every new ingredient available for cosmetic formulations, to help me sort the wheat from the chaff. *Smile* Chris (list mom - who is honest enough, despite marketing advantages to do otherwise, to disclose when my products contain preservatives and absolutely would use a natural preservative if there was a proven safe and effective one available.) http://www.alittleolfactory.com , Debra McDuffee <deb wrote: > > So, Dr. Mercola has a new body butter out, which sounds really nice, but > I am suspicious. Guest guest
I find Dr. Mercola's tactics to be so annoying. He uses such sensational techniques. And what does he mean by this " In my view, if you can't read or pronounce the ingredient, there is a high likelihood it should not be in your lotion or other skin care product. " I say if you don't know how to pronounce an ingredient, then improve your vocabulary! :-) He talks about the need for omega 3 fatty acids without actually saying alpha linolenic acid, eicosapentanoic, and docosahexanoic! Hmm, maybe omega-3 fatty acids aren't really important since those are big words that I'm sure some people can't pronounce! ;-) But in answer to thequestion, I don't know how he is preserving it, but I do know that there are many mislabeled products out there as well as products that are unsafe because they are not preserved properly.
