True it is above .. the distillation/extraction of EO is not for the

Aromatherapy industry .. we use but a tiny tad of those oils .. the

food flavorings and cosmetics/perfumery industries use the lion's

share. In the last few years we have seen a lot of EO being distilled

that are not used in those industries .. EO which are being peddled as

being revolutionary discoveries for the Aromatherapy industry but they

have no safety testing and no traditional use in AT. Basically, some

countries and some distillers are doing the same thing we criticize

BigPharm for doing .. creating a product and then creating a need for

that product.

But photosensitization is not a potential problem with all cold

pressed Citrus oils .. and we will find that CP Citrus oils have a

finer odor than distilled Citrus oils .. that's why CP Citrus oils are

generally preferred by the perfumery industry .. but these industries

are not in business to lose money or take risk so they exercise proper

caution.

We tried distillation of whole lemons while I was contract distilling

in Turkey .. the result was (in my opinion) a waste of effort and a

waste of lemons.

Finally, if one goes on the Net or checks the web sites of folks on

this news group .. they can find distilled Lemon, Lime, Grapefruit

Mandarin, Tangerine and Orange from some sources .. I am not one of

those sources.

And .. as Martin wrote .. beware and be cautious if the oil is to be

used for dermal application.

Y'all keep smiling. :-)

Hi All,

Orange juice essential oil is steam distilled from oj and has a very

bright, fresh smell, without any photo sensitizing properties. I have

a small vial of " Temple " , from Anya's garden that used OJ EO as a

really nice, creative top-note. While it is still inferior (in my

opinion) to cold pressed oils, I would definitely say it smells much

better than aother steam distilled citruses I've encountered.

Kindly,

Hi Jess,

Nice to see you here. :-) It's a small aromatic world. The way I like to

use the essence oils is in combination with their cold-pressed peel

counterparts and to create accords. This greatly expands the odor range and

creates more complexity. I wouldn't call the essence oils inferior, just

different, not as permeating. And, being steam distilled, they have longer

shelf life than the cold pressed ones.

Be well,
