Guest guest
Can anyone tell me just how to make my own incense? I just love burning it and do burn some everyday. I would love to know how to do this. Thanks so much, this group has truly enriched my daily life! Cath K Believe with an Open Heart and Mind --Cathy L. Guest guest
There are lots of different ways. Some people blend loose ingredients and sprinkle them on a piece of lit incense charcoal. Some bind together sprigs of dried herbs. To make cones, here's a fairly simple method.... 2 tsp. ground resin (frankincense, myrrh, dragon's blood, etc.) 2 tsp. ground botanical (lavender, rose, patchouli, etc.) 4 tsp. ground wood (sandalwood, santal, cedar, etc.) 1 tsp. orris root (optional - helps to hold fragrance) 1/8 cup water (other liquids may be used) 1 scant tsp. salt peter 1/2 tsp. gum tragacanth Blend together the top 4 ingredients. Mix the water, salt peter, and gum tragacanth, and allow to thicken. Mix the wet and dry ingredients together. You may need a bit more water, and if so, add plain water, 1/2 tsp. at a time until the mixture is a firm, moldable dough. Shape into cones, " snakes " , coins, or roll out and score into postage stamp sized flat pieces. Allow to dry for a couple of days on waxed paper, turning each day. They should be dry and ready to use in 3-4 days. You can add a few drops of essential oil to the dough while blending.
