Guest guest
Buffy The majority of essential oils are lighter than water and thus you can not get 16 oz of essential oil in a 16 oz bottle. Patchouli is an exception, it is heavy enough and even it HAS to be filled to the NECK of a 16 oz bottle to give you your full measure. Each and every essential oil is given a specific gravity number which is in relation to water. There are actually 133.5265 oz of water in a gallon. By typing in specific gravity of peppermint in google you will find the number given. Sometimes it will be from .899 to .902 and you take the average of ..901. Multiply 133.52 by .901= a gallon of peppermint will weigh 120.3 divide that by 8 (1/8 of a gallon) = 15.4 oz. Lemon essential oil has a specific gravity of .859 so all you can get in that 16 oz bottle is 14.34 oz.and if that supplier fills it below the neck you have been shorted even more...it will be more like 13.7. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Thanks Zo, I knew someone would know, however I expected a supplier of EO's to answer that question. WOW. What a lesson in purchasing EO's! I imagine it wouldn't be a big difference in purchasing the small ml bottles that many of us buy, but if purchasing in larger quantities to make products such as soap, lotions, etc., many businesses would not be getting their dollar's worth of product if they don't know how to check this. Thanks again, Hugs, Buffy , " Zonella Gould " <zgould wrote: > > Buffy > The majority of essential oils are lighter than water and thus you can not > get 16 oz of essential oil in a 16 oz bottle. Guest guest
I make a habit now of decanting any essential oils from any new vendor and weighing to see if I bought the full measure. If it doesn't I pass the word on to others that this vendor is shorting everyone. There are three vendors that I buy from that you get full measure every time. If you want their names please email me privately. None of these vendors use the standard amber glass bottle that most use. Because they know they can't get 16 oz in those bottles.
