Guest guest
Hi - I'm a chronic insomniac who also has an untreated sleep apnea. I've been taking ambien to fall asleep at night but it no longer works for me. I am considering getting two nebulizers for the bedroom. One for a sleep blend and one for a wake up blend. I have the hardest time getting up in the morning even if I've had adequate sleep. Does anyone have any great recipes for both blends? A night time one and a Morning one? Thanks in advance. Guest guest
I don't 'do' drugs, but the amino acid, SAM-e, and enough Magnesium sure have helped my sleep challenges, including the apnea associated with CFIDS. Of course a couple of drops on eo landar on the pillow makes la la land come a bit quicker. mjh Posted by: " shima_blue " _shima_blue _ (shima_blue?Subject= Re:Insomnia%20and%20Morning%20help.) _shima_blue _ (http://profiles./shima_blue) Mon Jan 28, 2008 7:55 pm (PST) Hi - I'm a chronic insomniac who also has an untreated sleep apnea. Guest guest
Hi - Thanks for your advice. I've tried the lavander and it really doens't work for me. Any other oils that are sedative? Maybe stronger than the lavander? Also any advice as to a good nebulizer? I had one in the past and cleaning was very difficult because of the shape of the glass part. , Marge Clark <marge wrote: > > At 09:24 AM 1/29/2008, you wrote: > >Hi - I'm a chronic insomniac who also has an untreated sleep apnea. > >I've been taking ambien to fall asleep at night but it no longer works > >for me. Guest guest
I used to say I didn't " do " meds either but my insomnia was so out of control I caved in. Now that the meds are not working I'm at a loss again. The lavander just does nto work for me!! , foxhillers wrote: > > I don't 'do' drugs, but the amino acid, SAM-e, and enough Magnesium sure > have helped my sleep challenges, including the apnea associated with CFIDS. Guest guest
Hi (pardon the informal greeting, what is your name? , I've spent quite a few phases of of my life as an insomniac (childhood through adulthood, on and off, for various reasons, including having babies , and I've learned several lifestyle modifications and techniques that have greatly helped me get into a routine, where now, when 10PM comes I am SO ready to hit the hay every night its almost sad, cause if I go out, at 10:30 I'm like ::yawn:: its so past my bed time *lol*. (35 yr old - old fart list mom Here are my finds .. (and remember, I'm not a doctor and I don't play one on TV or The Internet either .. First, a good, consistent nighttime relaxation routine is VERY helpful! It can be something like taking a bath, lighting candles in the bedroom, listening to relaxing music, using a foot massager (I love the HomeMedics shiatsu foot massager my guys got me for Mother's Day , reading a book, meditating (all of the above) ... do what you truly find relaxing, but remember that it works best if its a regular routine. It becomes a habit and we are creatures of habit. Stay away from watching TV in the bedroom while in bed. Its SO bad for falling asleep to. Between the flickering lights, the noise, the content in many cases (which the last half hour to hour of what you watch and listen to stays with you all night) .. its just not conducive to helping your mind and body achieve a good, refreshing rest. Exercising earlier in the day, and regularly, helps us rest more easily and readily at night. But don't exercise within a couple of hours of going to bed bed (unless its the romantic type that can help ya fall asleep afterwards Keeping the room COMPLETELY dark is a must for some, as even a tiny little bit of light streaming into the room (like a night light, moonlight, or a street light) can make your body stop producing melatonin the way it should. So keep it very dark, even using a sleep mask if necessary. Melatonin supplements can be helpful for some. 5-htp can help some folks sleep (it doesn't so much help me sleep as it makes me remember my dreams, which at times are so intense that I feel like I lived a whole other day while in my sleep). Be aware of your body's dietary triggers. What you eat can very well be affecting your sleep patterns. Caffeine is a big one for lots of folks! Me, personally, it doesn't matter, I can drink a shots of espresso and go to bed a short time later, but I know folks who have any caffeine after 11AM it messes them up for sleeping at night! On the flip side, teas of relaxing herbs (I love Sleepytime tea from Celestial Seasonings, a fave of mine since I was a little girl), warm milk, and other foods/beverages can be beneficial for inducing relaxation and sleep. Having AN alcoholic beverage (especially wine or a good brewed beer) can be relaxing, but having several of them and getting drunk isn't recommended {grinz}. Many of us have trouble falling asleep because our minds race with all those " things that need to be done " and other ill timed ideas coming into our heads. Well, I've found that keeping lists lets me get all that stuff off my mind and then I can rest. I now have a blank notepad on my bedside table and before I go to bed I jot down all those things that come to mind and need to be tended to tomorrow and over the course of the week. Well, that's the stuff I can think of right off the top of my head (I know, I'm a flibbertigibbet . There are more ideas and factors for sure, but the main thing is to remember that if you're having trouble sleeping, some lifestyle choices and conscious changes in our routines can be a big difference in making it right. As for morning help .. get those good night sleep habit going on, and your morning will be SO much better! I know this from personal experience (and I don't do the lavender thing either). *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.czluxe.com http://www.alittleolfactory.com

Some people don't like it so you may want to try blending it. I personally love it but I do believe it is an aquired taste (smell). Some other relaxing oils that it blends nicely with are: patchouli, frankincense, lavender, chamomile, jasmine(pricey), ylang-ylang. I find the most energizing oil to be cinnamon bark. It blends great with citrus oils that are also energizing. Somebody else mentioned Pink grapefruit. It is absolutely delicious with cinnamon bark. Christine Never miss a thing. Make your homepage. Guest guest
Hi Chris, sorry for not introducing myself. Must have been the brainfog from lack of sleep. haha. My name is jackie and I've used essential oils on and off for about 10 years now. I've tried most of the stuff you mention in your post but something always happens to break the routine... and even when the routine is going right it sometimes doesn't work. Its the craziest thing! I've been this way since I was 3-4 years old. My body prefers to sleep in the daytime! -- In , Christine Ziegler <chrisziggy wrote: > > Hi (pardon the informal greeting, what is your name? , > > I've spent quite a few phases of of my life as an insomniac (childhood > through adulthood, on and off, for various reasons, including having > babies , and I've learned several lifestyle modifications and > techniques that have greatly helped me get into a routine, where now, > when 10PM comes I am SO ready to hit the hay every night its almost sad, > cause if I go out, at 10:30 I'm like ::yawn:: its so past my bed time > *lol*. Guest guest
Thanks so much. Clary sage is one of my favorite oils from the first time I smelled it. Here's an article on Health about it: http://tinyurl.com/2axyn7 Kurt Schnaubelt also refers to it as a known sedative. Anybody had any experience with it? For myself, I can't stand the smell of it. Guest guest
Hi Jackie! I've had short (2-3 days) bouts of insomnia here and there, probably from anxiety or stressful life events, but I had BIG-time insomnia for a few weeks once, when I came off of pain pills post-surgery. I'd been on mild narcotic pain-relievers for a couple of months before the surgery, and then strong ones right after, and had no idea that my body had become dependent on them. I was fine during the day, but getting to sleep and staying asleep was a gamble, every night. If I woke up, I was up for the rest of the night. My husband is still terrified of accidentally waking me, all these years later, LOL! Here's what stopped it: german chamomile oil. We both loved the scent, and still use it from time to time. And I think putting it on our pillows became a sort of ritual (like Chris mentioned) that sort of primed us for sleep, apart from any of its actual sleep-enhancing properties. It was particularly helpful in getting me back to being a very sound sleeper, like I'd been before. That being said, there are still nights when I have to banish all cats from the room (little mattress hogs...) Good luck! Susan
