Guest guest
Hello I'm Rhonda a newbie at this. I am making lotion from scratch and wonder if it is better to use EO's or FO's. I dont think there would be enough EO in the formaula say a gallon batch to get the benefits.I preferr unscented lotions, but my sisters don't. Thank you

Now, I can understand wanting unscented... but yes, the benefits of eo's are there at very low levels...especially in a leave on product like a lotion...the skincare benefits would be there. and why on EARTH would you want to use FO's... ??? Guest guest
? Well, I'll probably start a riot but I am an eo person myself, especially with the lotions - depending on your formula a lot of ingredients make the skin more absorbent & you do not always know what is in your fo's.? If you make your lotion in large batches then you can always take out smaller batches out of it & scent or not scent accordingly.? But, you also need to be aware of the properties/benefits/precautions of the eo used also. ?God Bless You & Yours, Georgia (hahagranny) ~~~God's answers are wiser than our prayers~~~ ~~~Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take but by the moments that take your breath away~~~ ~~~Never be bullied into silence. Guest guest
Rhonda, the only thing I can recomend is never use FOs. I use EOs for my soaps, my lotions and anything else I put on a body. It was a very honest question. I've never 'gotten' the point of FO's... Guest guest
Shelly, FO's are fragrance oils. They have lovely fragrances that many people like and ask for. They have no benefits to the skin. Many soapmaker use them as well as Essential Oils. May times they are less expensive to use. When I was making and selling soap I used both EO's and FO's. I had clients that wanted some of each. HTH, Jan S sweetprairie May your troubles be less, your blessings be more and nothing but happiness come through your door! The one good thing about them is that there are synthetics available in scents that are not available via natural means... most of the 'fruit' scents (other than citrus)... lilac, lily of the valley (ie, flowers that do not lend themselves to scent extraction) etc. See our Valentine's Newsletter online at: http://www.naturesgift.com/NewsFeb08.htm
