Helichrysum Shortage ** Is This True?

Hello GoldenCougarWolf,

YL has been out of Helichrysum italicum for several months due to severe

> droughts in the few regions of the world where it grows - until now. Has

> everyone been without Helichrysum?

>

I think that a good .. safe .. rule of thumb is to assume that most anything

Young Living puts out to their " Independent Distributors " is NOT true .. so

it is refreshing to hear some truth from YL.. though its only a half

truth. ;-)

There is no real shortage of Helichrysum .. there is a shortage of Corsican

Helichrysum italicum .. the one folks really want. But a lot of folks (and

I am sure YL fits into this category) have rationalized that Corsica is

France so they are selling cheaper French Helichrysum as Corsican .. problem

is that the French Heli does NOT have the same chemical profile and it does

NOT have the same Therapeutic value as the Corsican. And it is a lot

cheaper .. so if one buys French and thinks its Corsican .. they are

getting shafted. And .. even the French and other Origin Helis have

increased in price this year.

Is Corsican Heli italium impossible to find? No .. but it is difficult to

find. And when we find it we must expect to pay 100% more than we paid

this time last year. Same goes for Turkish and Bulgarian Rose Otto (Rosa

damascena .. and there are price increases ranging from 15% up to 80% or

so on any other EO that are in popular demand but short supply this year.

Has everyone been without Helichrysum? Not really .. some folks on this

News Group offer it. Lots of folks will pay $10 for a package of Marlboro

or a gallon of gas if the prices rise that high .. and some folks will pay

$160 Retail for 10 ml .. or $400 Wholesale for an ounce of authentic

Corsican Helichrysum italicum.

I didn't stock any Corsican Heli from the 2007 Harvest-Distillation because

the price doubled .. due to that major shortage. In 2006, I purchased

this oil for around $4,500 a kilogram and it sold out in 6 months .. but

considering the great increase in price in 2007 I was afraid it would take

more than a year to sell another kilogram and I knew that sitting on such a

large investment for a year when one offers over 100 essential oils was not

so wise from a stand point of Cash Flow. ;-) .

But .. it remained a hot item this year .. folks wanted it regardless of the

price increase .. so I decided to contact the folks on our Back Order List,

show them the new prices, and see if they still wanted to order .. and

around half of them were satisfied to pay the new higher price ..

accordingly, I splurged for 16 ounces of Certified Organic Corsican Heli

italicum and within 3 days .. 13.5 of those ounces went to folks who were on

the waiting list .. now I have closed out my Wholesale offer .. the

remaining oil will be sold in itty bitty Miron Violet Glass bottles ..

Retail. ;-)

I sell this oil .. but my advice to folks who inquire is .. it is expensive

but this year is a Seller's Year on this product. Those who are not in

need NOW would do well to wait till July or so and see how the 2008 crop

fares. There are some who can not wait .. so is life.

End Users need to understand that Group members like me and Marge and Marcia

and Chris and the other sources of EO are not multi level marketing (MLM)

conglomerates who use false marketing and provide unsafe advice on use of EO

to sell our products .. nor do we have Up or Down lines and collect

percentages of their sales or their high fees to become member/sellers of an

MLM .. and .. we are often in the Red .. none of us are getting rich in this

Rat Race. I had to use my personal Credit Card to purchase this Heli and

some other EO because we MUST have oils on hand if we are to stay above the

waterline .. telling folks you are Out Of Stock too often is a great way to

turn a business into an expensive hobby. I tried to purchase a Kilogram of

this Heli .. it was NOT available in Kilo sizes.

Floods, draught, wild fires, typhoons, increased transportation costs, and

the general impact of climate change have all had a negative impact on some

aromatic and food crops during the 2007 crop year. Devaluation of the US

Dollar has caused us to have to pay a lot more for the products we sell so

all of us will experience Cash Flow ups and downs each month. On the other

hand .. though the lower dollar causes us to pay more for products .. it has

increased our sales. I have had more large international orders in the last

month than I had in the previous 3 months. This is good but it costs us a

lot upfront .. we lay out $1,000 to purchase ONE oil so we can sell $300 of

that oil to a buyer .. then we sit on the other $700 of oil until its sold.

Look at it like putting $700 in a dresser drawer .. there is no interest on

that money. Folks should also understand that we are not able to maintain a

high volume of sales and a low profit margin on ALL oils .. unlike grocery

stores who turn over all of their product within days, we sit on our stock

for months at a time .. it is a gamble and we sometimes lose if we have

stock of an oil that suddenly DECREASES in cost.

Good news for End Users is sometimes bad news for us .. some oils have not

increased in price this year .. some prices went down.

Folks also need to understand that News Groups like this one don't exist

because the List Mom and the contributors have Mother Theresa complexes

... some of us are here to provide accurate and safe information on

Aromatherapy and Essential Oils and we hope that by doing so we can help to

bring some credibility to this industry .. smash some of the inaccurate

(make that FALSE) marketing hype put out by organizations like Young Living

... and .. maybe even sell some of our products to Group members. There has

never been accuate and safe information presented by a single ACTIVE Young

Living dealer to this News Group! There are many YL dealers who are

members and there are many wise ex-YL dealers and customers who have

provided a lot of valable insight to Group members.

Y'all keep smiling. :-)

PS: Super Tuesday - List members who live in one of the 24 states that are

voting today oughta maybe consider getting out and exercising the right we

have to do so .. that right was bought for us by a lot of blood and

suffering. If we choose to not vote then if we later feel qualified to

complain about the choice of the majority, odds are that we have mastered a

method of feeling superior while living in Never Never Land. ;-)

Thanks Butch. I knew at least you would get back to me. I sure have learned lots

from you all. I am a massage therapist and YL dealers are always after me to buy

and sell. They often act like I am the dummy. I grew up on a farm with a Finnish

Grandma who would make her own oils and such. Taking her basic knowledge and

what I have gather from this group, I have tried to inform them of proper

usuage. Especially since my Grandma married the son of a doctor. She and my

Grandpa once removed would make medicines out of plants as well. So with that

knowledge I tread very careful with EO's.

Well thanks again Butch for the information. I wish I could do like you do, but

some of us just aren't that thrifty. I don't think I could buy that much oil and

wait for it to sell. I would if I ran a hospital and needed it to heal patients,

but that is not my job.

See you all soon.

Butch and all,

I appreciate the insider information on this list

immensely.

As you know, I try to do my share of educating the

public about the dangers of undiluted oil use and RDT

in particular. Whenever the topic of E.O.s comes up

on other lists, I suggest people go here for the real stuff.

AND. I must protest against a blanket condemnation of

any MLM.

I agree, some of the hype is positively sickening.

But in reality 95% of so-called members of any of these

companies are simply contented customers.

Yes, Sturgeon's Law applies, as it does elsewhere.

But there are good ones.

Sturgeon's Law: Theodore Sturgeon was a science

fiction writer in the fifties, best known for his novel

about a telepathic human mutation, " Slan " .

Someone told him: " Ninety percent of SF is Cr#p " .

To which TS replied: " Ninety percent of ANYTHING

is cr#p " .
