Guest guest
OK, so here's a slightly Devil's advocate question. Since it is really almost all of the woods that are in danger -- sandalwood, amyris, rosewood, cedarwood, cypress, pines, junipers, etc. -- what do we use as scent substitutes for these? Anyone have any thoughts to share? -- Debbie deb www.debrasrhapsody.com
Guest guest
>what do we use as scent substitutes for these? Exactly the question i asked of someone who knows the oil trade from the inside. The answer was kind of what I expected, which was that most of the sandalwood oil around is already touched up with synthetics; other tree oils are difficult to substitute with other natural oils. Pine needle oils of course should be easy without harming the trees, but in practice many woods are still clear felled. Now if only aromatherapists would get away from the crazy concept of skin absorption, it would be possible to substitute these natural oils with semi synthetic blends for fragrance use only. Of course again in reality this is what they have been using for years. On the down side it would entail using synthetic chemicals, but we should bear in mind a lot are made from turpentine (natural). It's a difficult balancing act, but the loss of these trees is far more important than other side issues in my opinion.
