Hi

I am trying to find out the ratio of raw material to its yield of essential

oils.

I am getting very contradictory information, such as one site mentions

10,000 pounds of rose petals yields one pound of essetial oil, while

in another site it is mention 100 kilos yield half a litre.

I would be v. grateful if i can get information on lavender, rose, t.tree

eucalyptus and geranium.

thanks a lot

Jay

Hi Jay:

When I was considering planting about 2 acres of lavender here at the farm,

I like you find such a wide range of claims on how much oil one can expect.

I am a small grower, 7,000 lavender plants of mixed cultivars. I will share

with you what I found from this years harvest and distilling in hopes that

will help you some. Do remember that as Butch stated that there are so many

factors with determine the oil yield. In Hereford, Texas it is very hot,

low humidity, and our field is row watered, I have lots of weeds that must

be hand hoed, and I can't predict the rain. Harvest is done, when the

lavender is almost completely bloomed out. It is distilled with in a day or

two of cutting usually. I use an 85Gal Steam Distiller. No Pressure with

this distiller, just steam passing up and thru the biomass.

Grosso- 50# Fresh 23oz oil & 5 gal hydrosol

Provence - 50# Fresh 10oz oil & 5 gal hydrosol

Munstead - 12# Fresh 4oz oil & 2 gal hydrosol

Royal Velvet - 20# Fresh 7oz oil & 2 gal hydrosol

Hidcote - 15# Fresh 3oz oil & 4 gal hydrosol

Grosso for me gives off much more oil always. You get copious amounts of

hydrosol, but we only keep the premium hydrosol.

Hope this helps you some. And I hope you are planting lavender!

Take Care

Cindy
