Guest guest
Hi All, Just a quick little survey asking everyone about your preferred carrier/fixed oil for use on premature babies. This is not asking about blending or adding in any essential oils or blending even two or more carrier/fixed oils together. This is just about singly used carrier/fixed oils you either have used or would suggest to use if posed the question about premature infant massage. What is your preferred carrier/fixed oil you would use on a premature infant? And your reasons? I have my own oils I would suggest but was wondering what others have either used or suggest to use. The reason I ask is that was a question posed to me earlier in the week by a customer. She wanted to use natural expeller pressed grapeseed oil that was not refined but we suggested sunflower or jojoba. I did check the archives and did not see this addressed. Thanks for your input. Guest guest
Perhaps olive oil might be a good one to use? It's very mild so it shouldn't trigger a reaction on the baby's skin. Considering that most baby product contain petroleum products I would think something like a Grade A olive would be much better. Guest guest
For infant massage I wouldn't use any oils at all. You never know what reactions such a young skin will have. If you want to use anything then perhaps unscented talcum powder, (Talc) Graham - Penny Friday, February 29, 2008 11:11 AM A Survey Question about Massage oils for Premature Infants Hi All, Just a quick little survey asking everyone about your preferred carrier/fixed oil for use on premature babies. Guest guest
Ack - NEVER use talc! Especially on babies (and preemies) and girlie parts, as talc has been over and over linked to lung cancer, ovarian cancer, etc ... Use tapioca powder on people instead For more info, Google the term " dangers of talc " .. add the word babies in there too for more specific info ... As for the infant massage ... if the baby is mature enough to be massaged, I'd personally use extra virgin olive oil. Maybe its just the Greek/Italian in me - but thats my fave oil for so many things *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com , " Graham Sorenson " <lunaaromatics wrote: > > For infant massage I wouldn't use any oils at all. Guest guest
I was taught in our infant massage class to use only jojoba oil. It is the most like human sebum. It won't interfer with the natural processes. - Penny Friday, February 29, 2008 11:11 AM [oils_herbs_ etc] A Survey Question about Massage oils for Premature Infants Hi All, Just a quick little survey asking everyone about your preferred carrier/fixed oil for use on premature babies. Guest guest
http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/501077 Evidence is emerging that the skin is much more important as a barrier to infection than previously recognized, particularly in preterm infants whose skin is underdeveloped, " lead author Gary L. Darmstadt, from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, says in a news release. " The good news is that treatment is available to strengthen the function of the skin as a barrier in these vulnerable newborns. " Zo >I was taught in our infant massage class to use only jojoba oil. Below is a link to a study conducted by the Touch Research Institute looking at this question.
