Guest guest
For those that don't have horses here, and don't understand this bill that the congress is proposing, it states: Authorizes the Secretary of Agriculture to detain for examination, testing, or the taking of evidence: (1) any horse at any horse show, horse exhibition, or horse sale or auction which is sore or which the Secretary has probable cause to believe is sore; and (2) any horse or other equine which the Secretary has probable cause to believe is being shipped, transported, moved, delivered, received, possessed, purchased, sold, or donated in violation of such prohibition. This bill would pretty much stop all transporting for any reason. Be it horse shows, trail riding, or if you have to haul your horse to a vet. They are allowed to take your horse. We are asking for people to sign this petition so they do NOT pass this bill. Please pass this on to as many people as you can. You can also write or call your congressmen and tell them you oppose this bill. Thank you. See below for the link to sign the petition: Petition: We, the undersigned horse owners and horse professionals, ask the U.S. Senate and Congress to vote " NO " on the AHSPA (HR 503 and S 311) as this legislation does nothing to provide a better outcome for the overall welfare of horses. Guest guest
Hey Ardis! We've got horses ... too many of them. Want one or two? First I've heard of this bill -- what in the world prompted it? Here in Texas (presumably elsewhere) you've got to have a current (within a year) Coggins pulled. (I only feed horses carrots now .. the business is my son & DIL's, I can't ride because of my knee ... plus at almost 59 I just don't get OVER things like I used to.) Guest guest
Ardis, you didn't include the url for folks to find the petition online. Last year, through this list, I think, someone passed my name onto a woman who has animals (mainly goats) living close to us - She called me and we discussed the advent of our WA State Ag Dept giving over land (without any public notification) for experimental drug crops. These are crops grown to be used to clone drugs (mainly rapeseed-canola crops). Because rapeseed is so invasive, I wanted more info, so I contacted our WA St Ag Dept. I found out that the WA Ag Dept isn't allowed to divulge any public information about this, including the locations of these experimental crops. Seems each state is swapping state land for some perks (also not public info) from the feds. Here in WA, it appears that it is well over 5,000 acres, but they aren't going to tell us. I thought at the time it was very strange for the Ag Dept to be so secretive, unheard of. Well . . . To tie into the post below . . . In our conversation, she also mentioned new legislation coming down the pike that allows the government to confiscate any of your livestock, or even pets. I thought this very strange and lord knows I didn't have time to pursue it (no need to worry about my cats, right?) Now, I'm wondering, what the he__ is going on? Mike Adams has a very good post on patenting plants as a way of enslavement .. . . http://www.naturalnews.com/022755.html Read this in its entirety and be active to thwart the 'gene patent' movement of big corporations. Create/sign petitions. Think regionally - join csa's, grow your own, patronize farmers markets, save/share seeds - do all you can to help create/support a local/regional food supply and break the stranglehold of big corporations on the food supply. Guest guest
Sure, I'll take a couple horses !! We have six, live in central MN and it's still cold here yet (-5 tomorrow night. It's been -30's and with windchill we've seen -50's too!). I graduated from the MN Horse Training Academy last summer (will be certified this June) and have been trying to train during the winter in this cold weather, in our machine shed. We're building a heated training/riding arena with 8 box stalls this summer. I'm 58 yrs old, but love every minute I spend with my horses. I train to resell. Larry Surrett was my teacher and he's a Fantastic person with a knowledge that is the best!! In MN you need a permit to ride the State trails and need to find out if a coggins is needed to ride the trails. We have county & state owned land we ride on for nothing. I've heard this is a bill regarding horses hauled for slaughter. So - everyone take care out there in the wide, wide world. Happy spring to all! Guest guest
I'm in Texas. We have quarter horses - some for racing and some for other athletic events. I'm almost 59 (Eek!!), studied under two former Olympic riders (one of them George Morris). Knees are not holding up well ... so not riding right now. These guys are bred pretty hotly, kinda snorty. While I could (as of 3 years ago) handle it, I'd rather not now ... I want a nice gentlemanly horse who wants to look at the butterflys with me!! The babies of our stallion are incredibly agile, smart, and very people-oriented. Dede , Ardis Beach <ardis_b wrote: > > Sure, I'll take a couple horses !! Guest guest
Hi Everyone - first I apologize for NOT introducing myself! I signed up for this group the other day and have not gotten a chance. In the meantime, this subject matter is a big deal. I belong to MANY horse and MSN groups. I am a horse person and have been breeding and selling for 10 plus years. It always pays to follow up on these things. I feel they are MOST definitely trying to put this in place due to the number of horses that are being exported to Canada and Mexico for slaughter since it has been outlawed here in the U S. Anyway, I really do NOT see this bill passing - like the National Animal Identification System trying to be enforced on horse owners- because of the MILLIONS of $$$'s that will be lost from the high end of horse competition. ie)Horse Racing And most of those on the small end of horse keeping, that can afford the upkeep of what they have - it will drive them right out of owning horses PERIOD.
