Hello, I am new to the group, my name is Kallie and I am from the UK. I

was wondering if anyone on here could help me, I would like to know

what kind of oils are suitable for pregnancy and childbirth and if any

one has an recipes for stretch marks and itching, nausea , pregnancy

back ache , labour pains etc... If anyone can help I would be so so

grateful, in short I am looking for natural remedies, it does not have

to be araomatherapy or massage as long as its natural.

Hope to hear from some of you soon !!

Kallie

P.s Where are people on her from? I got a feeling it was mainly USA

when I was looking through the thread, hope you dont mind me being here?

Hi Kallie! I'm Connie, also new here. Well, stretch marks are often a matter

of heredity but here are some essential oil to use during pregnancy:

To prevent stretch marks or heal existing ones, blend 1 Tablespoon (15 ml)

EACH of whaet germ, and rose hip seed oil in 5 tsp (25 ml) jojoba, grapeseed or

sweet almond oil.

Add no more than 10 drops in total of the following: (use singly or in

combination) rose, neroil, frankincense, lavender. Use twice daily for light

belly and breast massage. Use circular, clockwise motions on the belly. I also

find coconut oil to be very beneficial for all types of skin issues.

Oils rich in Vit E are great (borage, wheat germ oil)

Here are some oils to avoid altogether during pregnancy:

basil, clove, cinnamon leaf, hyssop, juniper, marjotam, myrrh, spanish sage,

thyme

best avoided during first 4 months:

fennel, rose, peppermint, rosemary, atlas cedarwood

this from Julia Lawless' book " The Complete Illustrated Guide to Aromatherapy "

Hope this helps! And welcome to the group!

I haven't been doing aromatherapy for long, but here's what I

recommend from my own experience with childbirth....

Citrus oils are the only oils that are recommended for pregnancy.

All other oils must be approved of or discussed with a qualified

aromatherapist. That being said, I never had any problems with the

oils that I used (as per my midwife's recommendation).

For a UTI, she had me rub grapefruit, tea trea, peppermint, and

lavendar (diluted, of course) on my lower back, which worked

wonderfully (along with a lot of cranberry juice).

During birth, I used Gentle Baby (Young Living) and Ylang Ylang in

my water, which helped speed things up.

For stretch marks, I used 3 drops of bergamot, 3 drops of neroli,

and 1 drop of lemongrass (the latter use only AFTER giving birth,

but safe during lactation) in wheat germ carrier oil (or use

whatever you have).

I used Hypnobabies for this last birth and HIGHLY recommend them if

you're looking for a painless birth...it worked beautifully.

I also recommend a water birth at home...it's very relaxing and

comfortable.

Anyway, that's just what I did!!

we have a page of 'aromatic birthing' suggestions online at:

for stretch marks...try melting some cocoa butter with Argan Oil to soften

it, for a salve... or just Argan oil alone... it is reputed to help with

stretch marks. I made a salve for my daughter in law using a bit of virgin

coconut oil, cocoa butter and Argan... she loved it...helped with the

itching...don't know if it helped with the stretch marks or not.

>Crap! MOST oils can be used during pregnancy.

Wonderful choice of words Kathleen. This crap that comes out of the

mouths of untrained or badly trained supposed aromatherapists really

winds me up. What makes it even worse is when the issue has been

covered ad infinitum in the archives and they think they know better

than people who have studied the REAL effects of essential oils.

Is there any available research that can be seen online? I was

informed that if the oils that are said to be abortificants actually

were then there would be no need for clinics dealing with this? I

have thought this to be a flippant statement .i also have used some

of these said oils in v low volumes during the 3rd trimester .?

See the article on pennyroyal on my web site. That takes apart all

the stupid claims over that oil. FACT numerous essential oils are

permitted food flavours, if there were the slightest indications of

abortifacient activity they would never be allowed in foods. The

foetal toxicity of most essential oils is in fact lower than for most

over the counter headache remedies. What you will find online is lots

of idiotic articles written by toxicologists who know nothing about

essential oils and who are simply after making a career in Government

advisory committees.
