Guest guest
Any suggestions for getting rid of spiders. especially, wolf spiders? We killed 6 yesterday alone (yuck!). I've read that lemon Pledge will do the trick b/c they don't like lemon, but I'd rather use lemon EO (or orange, lavender, or eucalyptus as I have a TON of those right now). Thank you, Tammy Tivis <http://www.ElementsBathandBody.com> www.ElementsBathandBody.com Wholesale Soap Making and Toiletry Supplies
Guest guest
Tammy, I've got that problem (plus mice). I've asked on several lists (I think this one too) and have been told peppermint. I was planning on planting some peppermint around the foundation of my house and putting peppermint eo in some places. I haven't seen any yet this season and was thinking it was too early yet, but based on what you just said I'd better get busy. Guest guest
That is so cruel why would any human being condone this type of torture for any small animal. They suffer and die and that is mean. - sindy Thursday, April 24, 2008 11:29 PM Re: Re: Natural spider repellant this is so stupid it works~I buy those traps that have glue on em and set them around the warehouse at work~ it works~ also even stupider~ I take a mouse trap(rat trap if needed) and load it with a piece of tootsie roll~ the mouse/rat pulls on the tootsie roll to get it off the trap~ wahlah~ throw him out the next day~ DH's warehouse is slap in the middle of crapville~ there's a recycle center , a high school, the dog pound, we are actually near the city works~ so we get it all~~ hth sindy : Natural spider repellant > Tammy, I've got that problem (plus mice). Guest guest
Hi Girls: We had a natural exterminator do our house and they used orange wax to get rid of the bugs. I checked what he was putting up under the window sills and that is what was there. It worked great and lasted us 2 years. We had Black Widows, Wood Spiders and also Hobo spiders which are cousins to the Brown Recluse. We had this done after I was bitten by the Hobo spider and after two years, the bite itched again and I lifted a piece of scab from scratching and there was a cone shaped piece of dead tissue that came out of the hole with the scab so I know they are nasty spiders as well as the Brown Recluse, just not quite as bad I guess cause I'm still here, LOL I sure hope this helps and it's worth a try anyway. Guest guest
Hey folks, I have not had time to jump in on this thread until now .. The unfortunate reality of having infestations of insects and vermin is they can and do spread disease. In nature we have birds that eat spiders and snakes that eat rats and mongoose that eat snakes, etc etc up the food chain. Well, in " society " and in buildings we do not have that eco system and/or food chain, so we end up with infestations, and have to resort to other measures, which include repellents, and also sadly sometimes extermination. Ideally when dealing with infestations the method that causes the least suffering for any and all involved is preferable - but you also can't just let an infestation go on hope it'll go away with a drop of peppermint oil (remember it was rats and the fleas they carried that caused the plague - and vermin infesting food sources has caused a great deal of disease pain and suffering to humans throughout history - and roach poop is responsible for many of the asthma cases in inner city children). I am the type who " escorts " just about every bug, lizard and other critter than ends up in my house out the door in a cup (hornets included) .. but the three times I've seen a black widow spider in my home .. I killed her, swiftly! I honored her place in the world, but also know that she is a danger to my family and its a benefits outweighing the risks thing. Do I take the " high ground " and make myself have a warm fuzzy that I can boast how I'm so humane to save that spider, but have my cat bitten and killed by it, or my child seriously injured? We have to be practical. Everything that lives will die .. everything! In fact, living things are not even guaranteed to be born, but they will die - and they don't all die of old age. Like it or not Mother Nature is beautiful and cruel. A creator and a destroyer. The rules of the game aren't always pretty, no matter how much we'd like them to be. So if they have to go, they have to go, but yes, keeping the suffering of anything to a minimum is ideal, because we do have compassion, but we have to be practical as well. Now going out and torturing animals or bugs for fun is a whole other ball game and should not be included in this conversation. I wouldn't even let a kid get away with frying an ant with a magnifying glass in my presence, that is totally wrong .. but I'll decimate a fire ant mound in the middle of my yard! Different situations! *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com
Guest guest
I don’t think that the problem is with the fact that you need to get rid of these critters and yes that for various reasons you might have to kill them. I think the issue was the apparent glee of the one post about the rat and how it died. It just seemed to me very cruel comment the way it was written. I don’t like killing critters either but I don understand that when they become a health problem that they need to be dealt with. I think the first step is to find out where they are coming in and blocking up those places because even if you kill them they are just going to keep coming back unless you block their ways in. Guest guest
I'm new to the group and have really enjoyed reading all the info. ya'll have shared. I'd like to share something I have used in the past as a repellent. I had a small bakery so had to be careful, so heres what I used and it does work. Sprinkle Johnson's Baby powder the lil' critter will not cross it. We also used this to keep ants out of the horse feed. The cans where on pallets so we would put the baby powder on the ground. Never had a problem with and in the feed after that. I can't remember how I learned this trick..lol..I do a lot of stuble'in on the internet...lol Love-n-light Robbie south Texas
