Guest guest
I recently found out that is connected to a company that is the largest marketer of shark fins in the world. They are 40 percent shareholders to Alibaba in China. Many people have written to and they do not even respond back. I want to do something to show companies like this that even if you are not personally doing it, you are still part of it if you are choosing to be financially connected. What I have decided to do is inform people that use so they can make an educated choice to stay with or find alternatives. Sharks are in danger of becoming extinct and most people are not even aware of it. Every year over 100 million sharks are killed for their fins alone. This is a grisly inhumane act where many times fisherman cut off the shark's fins while they are still alive and then throw them back into the water to drown and/or bleed to death. What makes this problem even worse is that sharks are not like other fish. Sharks live long lives and therefore they do not reach reproductive age until they are older, sometimes not until they are 25 to 30 years old. To make this even harder for them to come back when they do have babies they have very few. Some sharks only have one or two babies at a time and only give birth every other year. Sharks really don't deserve the rap they get from films and the media. They are not the killing machines that they are portrayed as, but really are beautiful and amazing animals that deserve our respect. They are the top predators of the oceans and we need them or our oceans will die and without our oceans so will we. After all 70% of our oxygen is supplied from our oceans. I am choosing to find an alternative. Right now I'm choosing to go with Google Groups. I have to admit that they are not as user friendly as , but hopefully with time that will change. I am choosing Google because of their environmental and humanitarian efforts. On June 20, the anniversary of the premier of Jaws, I will be leaving all . Please join me by letting know this is unacceptable, weather you take your pictures off Flickr, change your e-mail, leave , e-mail or all of the above. Below I have a link to a wonderful article explaining 's association to shark finning as well as an address to write . I was going to set up a petition, but there are already many petitions out there letting know their investment is unacceptable and has not cared. I've decided instead to ask everyone that would sign the petition to send them a quick e-mail on how it is unacceptable and the way they are planning on not using . http://www.celsias.com/2007/10/28/alibaba-com-and--back-shark- fin-traders/ Susan Decker, President Inc. 701 First Avenue Sunnyvale, CA 94089 Phone: (408) 349-3300 Fax: (408) 349-3301 CorporateSecretary Here is also an article from Sea Shepherd with an example of a letter to . http://www.seashepherd.org/news/media_071004_1.html Thank you all and if you have any questions please feel free to e- mail me. Guest guest
Hi Michelle That link didn't work but I converted it to a tiny url here: http://tinyurl.com/5qcqfs Thanks for the info. Very disturbing to know what kinds of inhumane practices still go on out there, not to mention 's financial support of it! Guest guest
Hate to tell you guys. We are still human, and we are still all on different evolutionary " chains " and as such we will never stamp out completely the humanity of us all. (When you say inhumane.. you mean uncivilized, and both are misnomers, because humans are neither civilized nor are they Humane.) Just look at the " children and what they do to each other. " That right there shows you how civilized we are... Jennifer. There is always going to be someone more " civilized " and someone less civilized than we are. Guest guest
Gee Jennifer. Havin' a bad day? I thought I was a cynic, but now I feel like a gosh darn Pollyanna. I hope someone does something nice for you today. Patty --- Jennifer Janek-Markey <pixieladie wrote: > Hate to tell you guys. If you look at it on a grand scale... Even though there are horrors in the world. There is great good too. Where in there is great disaster, there is great opportunity for miracles. It's the everyday miracles that people forget happen... The baby crying after just being born, a momma crying after giving birth, the bandaid on a scraped knee that brings much comfort and a soft word when someone is sad... Miracles about in my life everyday. And the thing is that someone doesn't have to do something nice for me to Thank them for being alive.. And Thank you Patty. That was such a wonderful thought. I think I'll frame it. (Literally and I'm not trying to be a smart @$$) (Right back at you Patty. Every one needs someone to do something nice for them occasionally!) RAK (random acts of kindness) Jennifer.
