Guest guest
Ok, I have a problem, what do I need to add to my Olive oil soap to keep it from going rancid? This has happened in 2 batches I have make. Also I came upon this recipe that is very old but not sure if I really want to try it. It is called " SOAP THAT FLOATS " It came from a friend who found it in a very old magazine. Dissolve 1 can Lewis lye in 1 quart warm soft water. Cool. Add lye and water to 2 quarts melted grease. Dissolve I cup ammonia and 2 tablespoons Borax in 1/2 cup soft water. Add to first mixture and stir until thickens. Pour into mold. Cut into bars before it hardens completely. NOTE: Ammonia and borax may be omitted and a cup of kerosene added in their place. I am not sure how much lye was in a can of Lewis lye. Has anyone heard of this recipe? I was thinking about using Olive oil instead of grease. Any suggestions before I try this recipe? Oil is getting to expensive to mess up when making soap. Guest guest
My grandma used to make that soap. Don't use it. It makes you break out all over. Lewis lye was like an 8oz can of lye. There is nothing I know of to make olive oil stay fresh except putting it in the fridge.
