Guest guest
Morning all: Don't have all the answers, but here is my input about recycling those older eo's & bottles. There are plenty more that can be done, these are just off the top of my head. First of all: Make sure those oils are not the ones that do better with age such as: Sandalwood, etc. Second: Citrus oils: Make them into all purpose cleaning products for your household and furniture polish. Thirdly: Those that may be good insect control: Mix with some poly 20 or 80 and water, shake well and spray areas around your property that you can keep the domestic animals away from. Suggestions: Spray the foundation of your house with your evergreen/cedar oils, tea tree, eucalyptus, and others that may repel insects. Peppermint and other mints drop straight on ant areas. It doesn't kill them, but will help to repel them and move them away from your more precious plantings. Mix with 2 Tbl. Neem oil, poly 20 or 80, 1 gal water and spray weeds to help repel insects such as ticks, aphids, etc. This coats the skin of those unwanted insects and smothers them out. You can even add 2 TBL of baking soda to the mixture. Minus the essential oil, this is a great organic insect control for edible and flowering plants. Lemon oil: drops a few drops into a bowls of water along with some lemon detergent and use to keep mosquito's away. They are drawn to it and will drown when near the water. Plus it will kill the larva if they should live long enough to lay larva around. Set these on railings, etc., nearby your house and you'll be amazed at how many mosquitoes and such will be gone. Again: Be careful of any domestic animals that could get to it. Most will stay away, but you can never discount curiosity. Try using a few drops of the citrus oils in your car wash liquids to cut grease and help the shine. All the good degreasers on the market have orange oil, sometimes lemon in them. They do cut thru grime in a heart beat. Should you be painting, put a few drops of your favorite eo in the paint to cut down on the fumes. Use in diffusers, put a few drops onto Central Heat & Air filters, vacuum filters to put a clean smell in your house. Even if the aromatherapy properties are missing, you will at least have a nice smelling area. Am sure there are loads other ways to use the oils and others will send in notes too. Clean those bottles and recycle! Especially the expensive 16 oz ones. Or offer them to someone else to reuse. It does take a bit of washing to get them clean and disinfected, but can be done. Hot sudsy water, alcohol, orange degreaser, all of those help. Let soak in the sudsy water, then degreaser and soapy water. You can microwave them with water in them to cook out the remains, etc. You can spray with alcohol lastly for a final cleaning. It's tedious, but well worth saving those bottles and using them for other things, or even more eo. Note: USPS new rates: Altho it may not be mentioned on their website or paperwork. The USPS is now penalizing packages that are bigger than their big box of 12X12X8. Excessively! For instance: Just sent a box to Canada that was $15 higher via usps than UPS which in the past was unheard of. Sent a bigger box to Florida the other day that the calculator said was 20.90 for 7.2 lbs, when I actually bought the postage it cost more, right at $2 more. Went to UPS and calculated it after the fact, that same box was $10 cheaper. UPS has never been cheaper for boxes. If sending over 3 lbs, you may want to compare prices before committing yourself to using one or the other. If you care about excessive shipping, please take time out to write to USPS to complain or give them a call. On their website there is a link for email and the 800 number. Three rate hikes in 4 years is excessive on top of the rates of everything. Total Greed! If this continues on top of food rate hikes, gas, etc., and wages not going up, we are heading toward another great depression. Things do not look good. We all need to make money, if things continue as they are now, we will all lose biz! Folks cut out luxuries first. The need to eat and get where they need to go comes first. Stand up, write letters to your state and federal representatives. They need to know that everyday folks can't continue as they are with this corporate/government greed that is unprecedented. A most wonderful week-end to you all, deb
