The brand of grain alcohol I am most familiar with is

called " Everclear " and you are right, according to Wiki, it cannot be

sold in New York. It is 95% alcohol or 190 proof. For those like me

who never knew exactly what proof was, here is the definition from Wiki

" Alcoholic proof is a measure of how much ethanol is in an alcoholic

beverage; proof is twice the percentage of alcohol by volume (ABV, the

unit that is commonly used at present). "

 

You might be able to use the highest proof Vodka you can find. I

suggest vodka because it is pretty much odorless.

The more expensive the vodka, the better it is for lack of smell. The cheap

stuff seems to have a bit of an oily scent to me.

 

Too bad I don't know that guy who had moonshine once.......that stuff was as

clear as water, no smell, went down like water and the moment it hit my tummy,

my lips felt like melted gummy bears.......man, totally had the warm fuzzies

LOL.
