Guest guest
Howdy Genevive, Anyone know of a way to keep skunks out of your yard? Genevive > Aside from using violent means .. like a shotgun .. or more passive, but effective .. and stinky .. means like Hav-A-Hart Live Traps .. there is the Rabbit Fence .. like this one ... http://www.ezrabbitfencing.com/ but you can get similar fences .. just as effective and less costly .. from a Lowes store. Maybe 3 years ago we had an AT Unconference in Albuquerque, NM .. we all stayed in an old quartel type housing area in Old Town. Nights the skunks would come out in large numbers .. especially one Mama skunk who had a buncha kittens .. but we were also out nights having discussions and a few drinks at the gazebo in the center of the quartel. We had to be careful not to surprise them cause they were not afraid of people. Best as I can remember, Kathleen Petrides wanted to catch one of the young kittens and take it home. ;--) I'm lucky in that I live in the country now but no skunks have come around ... coyotes and coons do come into my yard .. and deer try to come into my garden. My dawg gives keeps them busy but when he's out running in the woods the coons sometimes come in and eat his dawg food. Could be worse .. feller down the road raises Guineas and he has had bobcats come into his yard .. and they were not afraid of him. He shot one a while back and I'm not sure if they still come around but I expect not. I wouldn't shoot a coon but I have popped a .38 cal. cap at a coyote .. he was after my cat .. I missed him and he has not come back. We also have a Mama fox and some kits that come around but they are harmless .. feller near me feeds them dawg food. Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch .. http://www.AV-AT.com <http://www.av-at.com/>
Guest guest
Butch you rotten no good so and so! I did NOT want to take them home, but they sure were cute! I did enjoy sitting on the bench outside my door watching them gambol around and made sure they knew I was there so as not to cause them undue stress... I don't think that would have been pretty. I did have a LOT of fun telling Stacey about the kittens near my place and telling her to go check them out... while not explaining exactly what kind of kittens they were! LOL She was a little grumpy (while still laughing about it) when she came back to the table if I remember right! LOL! >sigh< That was a good conference, sure would be nice to attend another. Speaking of getting older and falling apart... My blood pressure has done a BIG no-no and I'm having to correct it. Again self-diagnised (love those grocery store machines, I hate taking the time to go to the quack) and I know the remedy. It's hard, temptations abound with kids in the house, but so far- hanging in there. If it doesn't start going down (the bp) I WILL have to go to the quack and probably take medication. Something to be avoided in my book. ;-) Thanks for the fun memory Butch and take care of yourself Dead Woman Walking (it was BAD ;-( ) K On Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 11:03 AM, Butch Owen <butchowen wrote: > Howdy Genevive, > > Anyone know of a way to keep skunks out of your yard? Genevive ******************************************************************** We recently had that very problem on our 2 acre property. The critter decided to take up residence under one of our sheds. Made for problems at night when I would let my beagle out " one last time " before bed. Skunks are nocturnal and beagles are natural hound dogs. After one late night bath for him, I scoured the internet to find a solution. This is what I found (And having used it, I can say it definately worked. It did take a couple of days). Shake-Away - Solve Your Skunk Problem Naturally What is Shake-Away and how does it get rid of skunks? It is a powerful, granular deterrent that takes advantage of the strongest repellent in the animal kingdom… your small critters inborn, instinctive FEAR. Shake-Away Small Critter Powder contains the scent of the pests worst enemy, the Fox. http://www.critter-repellent.com/skunk/how-to-get-rid-of-skunks.php It was $14.95 for 20 oz. I didn't need the entire 20 oz but did use a lot of it because we have 4 different storage sheds etc. I would gladly spend the money again should he decide to come back, though it's been 2 months and he's not come back.
