Guest guest
I am distilling lavendula x intermedia " grosso " lavender. I was using just the bids and wonder if the boiling gas at the bottom got to all the buds since they are so tightly packed. Any information? I could redistill them with some lavender stems stems to loosen them up but would prefer to avoid this. Jan young **************Get fantasy football with free live scoring. Guest guest
Hey Jan I'll give you what little I can... someone will be able to do better... The water at the bottom boils and turns to steam... this you know... steam flows up through the buds and takes the Essential Oil with it, which then carries it to the distillate portion where it then pools at the top, this you also know... I don't think it really matters how tightly packed it is, as the steam can quite easily pass by and grab what it wants... I don't think RE-distilling is something you want to do. I think it would lesson the quality of the distillate and the oil. Give it a go and see how it turns out. I think you'll be okay. Also... I don't know if you know this, but you can tell when it's time to turn it off when the odor starts to change, and there is a distinct difference to " done " lavender compared to " still cooking or distilling " lavender. None of this has probably helped you one bit, but I tried. ;-) K On Sat, Jul 26, 2008 at 10:35 PM, <Oaklandplants wrote: > I am distilling lavendula x intermedia " grosso " lavender. Guest guest
Thank you so much! I will forego redistilling it and hope the yield is low because there was little oil in the buds. The smell--I'll check this out. I probably have observed it and did not realize it. Where are you doing your distillation? Jan Young In a message dated 7/27/2008 1:02:33 A.M.
