Guest guest
Hi Liz: All witchhazel is not created equal. Some has a slight amount of alcohol and others have high amounts of alcohol in the ingredients. Check yours to see. If it is 14% or less, it should not be causing you much trouble. If it still does, you may have to use something different. BTW, the higher amounts of alcohol WH are cheaper. You might want to consider taking off makeup and such with a good oil to help bring your mositure back. Second: Earache: Seems most all of my family have always been plagued with earaches other than myself. When I do get one, the first thing I do is apply a heated cloth to the back of the ear, etc. Moist one if you so desire. Make sure you aren't in any drafts during the night that could be causing it. If this doesn't work, then I would try sniffing some good anti-bacterial oils: Such as a Carvacol rich Oregano, Ravensara aromatica and Eucalyptus radiata. If those did not work, then I would go to applying an infused mullien oil to the outside of the ear, or a mullien extract drops via mouth. Sweet oil is actually Olive oil and is about the only thing folks recommend to put in the ear. Heated in a cup of water, it may help by slightly melting earwax to relieve pressure as will the very warm towel around the ear. If all else fails, you might want to try one of the ear wax removal systems bought from a local pharmacy as a last resort. Should you not have quick relief from any of those, you might want to continue sniffing the oils and perhaps have a go at an appointment with your medical practioner. Am sure others have plenty of other input for the ear problems. Hope you get some relief. Sincerely, deb
Guest guest
Hi Deb, Thanks for your advice. That was great. My witch hazel was 14% alcohol. So I guess about the lowest quality. I had no idea about even checking the alcohol content, so that will be very useful to look for in future. I have just been cleaning my skin with an oil, and there has been a definite improvement. The rash on my neck has also gone. So I'm just going to stick to the moisturizers for dry skin at the moment and see how I go. I have started using the witch hazel toner again. So if the dry skin comes back, I'll stop and move to something different. As for my ear, I went to the chemist and explained the problem. He said it sounds more like a middle ear infection than a problem with the outer ear and so typical remedies for earache wouldn't help me at all. He said the best thing is steam. So I've been using steam with eucalyptus and also drinking Echinacea tea for my immune systems. It's still quite bad though. Liz _____ I am using the free version of SPAMfighter for private users. Guest guest
I know this isn't natural but for earaches I have always had the best luck with using Cortaid or a generic triple antibiotic ointment/cream. My kids would always get earaches and the pediatrician said to use the Cortaid ointment(because cream would look yucky in the ear not because it would not work) Place in ear about three times a day and the next day the kids would feel better. I would continue for a week and they would be fine. Sherri Rohm - " Liz Palmer " <palmer19 Sunday, August 03, 2008 9:00 PM RE: Liz~dry skin~witchhazel~etc. > Hi Deb, > > > > Thanks for your advice.
